How to Save Money at 11th Street Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had taken my dog in for an issue with her mouth. After being examined, the vet, who I really liked, wanted to schedule her for a dental procedure but the girl who does that wasn’t there and we were supposed to get a call back to schedule her appt. She never called and I called two more times over the next week to try and get her in and never got a call back. I ended up taking her somewhere else where she was diagnosed with oral cancer and her teeth weren’t even the problem of her symptoms. Now I must admit my dog isn’t fond of opening her mouth so it would have been hard for the vet to see until he got in there to do the dental procedure, but they didn’t even get the chance because I was never able to get her appointment scheduled. The vet was amazing he took his time with us and explained everything in detail… I was planning on bringing more of my dogs there but the front office staff ruined the whole experience for me.

Absolutely horrible! Made my dog cry! Very rude tech. Supposedly the head vet tech. What a disgrace to the owner. Very rude receptionist. Called the police on me after cursing me out and the head tech waving her arms centimeters from my face. I would never recommend them to anyone! Absolutely ridiculous! If you love your pet. Find someone else. We had been going there 8 years. Should have left years ago. They have for the most part been extremely rude and not caring at all every single time!

I’ve visited 11th street Vet Clinic twice in the last few weeks. My first appointment was for a checkup and shots for my dog. The second was for grooming services. The staff was very nice and professional. They got me checked in and explained everything to me. I feel like they really care about animals by letting me know is breed specific things to look out for without trying to push me into expensive plans like I had experienced at some other places. Their grooming and boarding services were rightly priced and the end I was very satisfied with the end result. I definitely feel good having them in my dogs corner.

Hands down the best vet. They took me in on a weekend in an emergency even though I wasn't a client, provided great emergency care and have been amazing ever since. My dog is special needs, and he is thriving thanks to their work. The whole staff is great and sent me multiple pictures and updates when he was staying at the hospital, the very called at 9pm to give much wanted updates, and they always show they care. Plus, Jed often walks out with an adorable bandana when he leaves.

This is the most disorganized and dysfunctional office I ever seen. 4 different people gave me 4 different excuses for why the vet just didn’t bother to do a scheduled surgery 2 days in a row. If they don’t want to do a procedure they should say that, not keep my dog locked up in a cage waiting for the doctor to get herself together and do her job. And they charge $55 for a heart worm test. FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS. So unless you like being lied to, jerked around, and overcharged for very basic procedures, don’t even go here.
