How to Save Money at East Lake Cat Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Me and my cat, Lee Know, had a fantastic experience with East Lake Cat Care Center. Lee Know is my first cat, and I adopted her about a year prior before I needed to put her up for boarding while I had a trip out of country. I was very anxious about boarding after hearing many videos and reading it is best to keep cats at home, but I had no one I could ask to look after her and my family was not comfortable with a sitter in our house. My vet at the time seemed very disapproving of the choice, but I really did not have any options and did NOT want to leave her at home and expect my relatives to only drop by for less than an hour a day--my cat is too social for that and she recently started having some type of health issue that we later identified as seizures. I asked an experienced pet parent friend and she recommended East Lake Cat Care Center among a few others. She assured me that her cat with health needs stayed here, and that they were connected to a vet facility. I took a few tours and was able to tour this facility. All I could say is WOW! This place is beautiful, homey, the suites were beautiful and clean, and the cat condos spacious. The staff who gave us tours each time we visited to help our decision were very kind, caring and helpful. Though the cat suites were pricey, I chose to go with them as the most private option for my cat's first staycation away from home and I don't regret it AT ALL! The staff took fantastic care of her and I received pictures every 2 days while I was out of country. My cat had a bed, seats she could sit on, a window to look out of, a ceiling window, room for her stuff, and a TV! They really put my mind at ease, allowed me to being tons of her stuff and set her up ahead of time, and were receptive to emailed questions and calls I had about her care. All of her stuff came back with me safely as well. 100% would choose this facility again if I needed to board her. Even though I don't have a lot of money, again, this was just very worth it for me and I was assured if her anxiety was too high or anything that the staff is competent and able to administer her meds. I didn't even need to worry--she was anxious the first few days but got along great with the staff. It was great to see how fond they were of her by the time I picked her up. I am very thankful for you all's care of my special girl 💜. Attached are some photos the staff sent :).

The attention and kindness they offer you is very good, my cat is a little nervous but the doctor always treats her in the best way.

Wonderful, cozy, cat-centered facility that immediately puts you at ease. The whole vibe is visiting your cat-loving grandmother at her antique Victorian house, except your grandmother is a vet! Also, the resident cats are incredibly friendly and have wonderful bedside manner. While my cat was in x-ray, Rocky the office cat stopped by to purr, rub himself on my legs, and stayed to keep me company while I waited and worried. Absolutely incredible facility with wonderful staff who understand cats and I cannot recommend it enough!

Well, my littlest guy passed away in my arms on March 7 . I had hoped I was getting the best care for him that I could. But this morning when he took a turn for the worst, I couldn't even get through to anyone as their phones were supposedly down. I got a few I'm sorries but that doesnt bring my buddy back. As it was, I had to call up and gripe about him not getting an IV from the start even though they'd told me he was dehydrated. He had an appointment for an ear infection, then the vet I saw wasn't in, so it was moved up a week. That day I called to confirm but their phones were supposedly down all that day, too, so that appt didn't happen, either. By the time I got him in, the infection had moved to his brain. It cost some $387 for him to be 'treated' and an additional $200 some odd dollars for an IV and shot that just left him paralyzed and incontinent for days before he passed. In fact, that vet was sitting there discussing microwaving the IV and how 'bubbles were okay', with some assistant, which sounded a bit strange. The cat didn't really seem to like him, in retrospect, and howled in pain both times he jabbed him. The meds prescribed for him were weirded, as well. On the bottle it advised to use on infected ear, however, both his ears were infected. The stomach medicine he was prescribed even had conflicting instructions both on their label and on the enclosed pamphlet so that I wasn't even sure which instructions to follow. He should be out here catching sun on the ledge and not inside a wood box on my desk. In retrospect, I likely could have gotten better care for him elsewhere. Many regrets. 💔💔💔😿

The Cat Care Center helped my family re-home a deceased family member's kitty in less than 24 hours. The staff is super supportive and professional. They go above and beyond to help you and your fur baby. And, not only is the staff amazing, but so are their guests. The cats and kittens here are affectionate and adorable little purr machines. And their resident kitty, Rocky, is the most photogenic cat I've ever encountered, too! For whatever reason brings you to the Cat Care Center, you'll have made the right choice coming here.
