How to Save Money at All Pets Veterinary Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Rupley has amazing patient handling and client communication. My guinea pigs are in great hands here, and I will definitely continue to bring my boys here and recommend to my friends with exotics :)

From first visits to ultimately having to put our hedgehogs down in their old age, we had only positive experiences at All Pets in terms of quality of care and professionalism. If you have an exotic, this should be your vet! My wife and I also have two dogs, but I would love to highlight some of the care we received for our hedgehogs over the years. We first came to All Pets for our hedgehog Peanut being constipated (fatal if not treated, like a lot of pets). I brought Peanut in to be seen, and being a first timer for a pet requiring anesthesia to be seen, they walked me through why, how, and how long he would be under while being seen. They explained potential risks associated with anesthesia, and gave me a complete cost breakdown of required costs and optional tests/costs that I could approve or reject line by line. While fixing up Peanut, Dr. Rupley noticed his skin had some issues as well. She patiently explained what it could be and what she recommended, but left it totally up to us whether or not we wanted to pursue treatment immediately which we really appreciated as broke college students. Later we got a second hog, Gherkin. A third, Kiwi, was the outcome of Peanut sneaking over *two* barriers and meeting Gherkin. At some point after washing their blankets, hair from the drier got wrapped around Kiwi’s foot, cutting off circulation. We didn’t notice for a couple of days as hogs are pretty non-social, and it was really bad. We immediately brought her in where Dr. Rupley said she may lose the foot, but she could try laser microsurgery to cut the hairs, remove them, and dress the wound. Because she was just a baby with a lot of life left in her, we opted to try. Despite the warnings of potential failure, not only did Kiwi keep the leg, you couldn’t even tell it happened! She would run on her wheel for hours every night like nothing happened with no scar that we ever observed. There were many other stories like these, especially for the more difficult visits, where we received excellent care for our hedgehogs and the staff were always very professional.

Under the circumstances of things being under all COVID-19 safety measures I don't think there really is much that could have been done at this time to make our visit any better. I would have loved to actually meet Dr. Rupley in person & go over her first visit with my bird. Luckily enough she made a phone call to me afterwards & discussed everything with me & it was not a rushed call & when I picked Flo up her report she sent home was detailed in everything we discussed over the phone. I am just grateful that All Pets is open & able to take care of my bird. The staff is friendly & Dr. Rupley is very thorough. I will definitely be using this office for all of my birds needs & highly recommend All Pets to anyone who is looking for a Vet. It was great to find out that Flo is a happy healthy bird.

When we got home from vacation and found our dog had received a bad injury at the kennel he was at, we took him to All Pets for the first time because our prior vet would not be able to get him in for a week. We love how loving and caring they always are toward our dog - they treat him as if he was their pet. They go above and beyond in their attention to care without doing unnecessary work. Our dog is actually excited to go there, because he knows he’s going to see friends. Thank you to everyone there, e we appreciate you all so much.

We thought we would have to tell our sweet little Dragon goodbye. Thankfully, Dr. Rupley's care and expertise gave us the option to put him through surgery and give him back all the quality of life that he had lost. He is now fully recovered from surgery and so incredibly healthy. At 22 months old, I know that every day is borrowed time. I am so thankful to the AllPets staff for giving us this time with our sweet boy. My only complaint I'd that they are so very expensive, even compared to other vets. But, there is nobody else I would trust with my hamsters.
