How to Save Money at Vetsavers Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Every time I have come here, my animals have always been treated with such great care! All of the staff have been super friendly and understanding. I appreciate the facts and straight to the point of best options for care and most affordable. Thanks for loving on my Moose!

Our family has been taking our cats to VetSavers for a number of years. Since we have four kitties, one who is a senior with special medical needs, we always have someone who needs to go to the vet! Dr. Mace is a pro, one of the best vets I’ve ever met. Not only does she keep up with advances in medical info and technology, she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and do whatever the cats need for their health. She’s done two surgeries for us and connected us with a specialist when needed. The staff at the front desk are always kind, and the vet techs are experienced and confident with the animals. We wouldn’t take our special kitty fam anywhere else.

I absolutely love this clinic! They are always so well organized and efficient. It’s really easy to make an appointment and I’m always in and out in less than an hour. I’ve been coming here since 2018 and recommend them to everyone I know.

I've been taking my dogs here for about 8 years. Unfortunately, I have had some dogs get really sick, but they are very kind and will spend a tremendous amount of time explaining everything you need to know. On one occasion, I had to take one of my dogs to a 24 hour animal hospital. The next morning, I spent 20 minutes on the phone asking Vetsavers of their opinion of what I was told by the 24 hour hospital. Very patient and there was no charge for the consult. Very caring vets.

I should’ve read the reviews before coming to this place. Most of the 1-2 star reviews are what I experienced my first visit. I agree the name definitely needs to change, because it did not save me any money. The first time visit was waived for $40, but still walked out paying $200. Smh The technicians seemed nice when entering the room, but it was questionable. I was concerned with how they were handling my poor kitty (as if she was in attack mode) which she was not, but they had muzzled her and had long gloves on while standing apart to do their job…almost as if they were afraid or first time doing their job. My kitty usually warms up to other technicians, but these two ladies went straight in and didn’t comfort her at all before starting her procedures. My kitty is indoor and very clean. The muzzle and gloves they used on her had an odor and looked like it wasn’t cleaned from the last pet. I couldn’t wait to get home to wash her. This place wasn’t comforting at all. I’m very skeptical of her having surgery here. I wanted to try a new place for her for a second opinion, but looks like I’ll be going back to a previous vet. The technician also kept asking the same question multiple of times, and I was unsure as to why. This place is NOT affordable. It’s the same as any other vet!!!! If you don’t have any insurance or credit card, be prepared to walk out spending $200-$400 depending on the procedure and medicine isn’t included in that price!! The room we were in smelled like a pet had an accident urinating. Also, instead of the tech putting our kitty on the scale, we had to do it. She did not leave from her laptop (black lady with box braids) at all to help soothe our kitty, so that she could be comfortable, and she was very forceful with holding her head that I could see the veins in her eyeballs. That’s how aggressive she was holding our kitty. The other tech had us to open our kitty’s mouth. Even with protective wear and a muzzle on, which they didn’t need, they were still afraid and barely touched our kitty. They may as well have given us a scrub to wear, because we basically did their jobs. I was just emailed our kitty’s results and now no reply back. No one wants to help us with her. I hate doctors and vets..no genuine ones out there.. everyone just wants your money! Anyway, visit at your own risk.
