How to Save Money at Advanced Care Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My 10 year old Chihuahua Truman, was having severe neck pain and muscle spasms. After a couple of months of trying different meds, My vet recommended us to Dr. Strammel for a consultation. We started aggressively with acupuncture and laser therapy. We were still taking pain meds and anti-inflammatoires during the first few weeks of treatment. After about 6 sessions, I was able to drastically reduce his meds and Truman was nearly back to his normal self. He went from hunched over, trembling and screaming if I touched him, to playing and running around like he had never been injured. Dr. Strammel and Emily gave my boy his spirit and his life back. I am so thankful for their care, knowledge and dedication.

Dr. Strammel has been our go to now for a couple years after our dog first tore her meniscus and then when she tore her CCL’s. Originally, our option was surgery, and that was just not something we were comfortable with. Dr. Strammel was able to give us options to avoid costly surgery, and he helped get our pup from barely walking, back to her energetic, running and jumping self! Even our primary care vet is extremely impressed with how she has recovered. Now, we work with Dr. Strammel to keep her muscles strong, and manage her pain as needed. Him and his staff are absolutely the best, and work hard to be sure the right options are available to help your pets!

Our almost 12 yo mini-poodle (Niki) had an ACL tear on her left knee in November 2020 and got operated in January 2021. As she was recovering she also tore the ACL on her right knee. Unfortunately we could not operate on her again as her blood reports were not favorable for another surgery. The vet who operated on Niki's left knee recommended doing therapy instead after giving her few days of initial rest. After lots of research and reading positive reviews of Advanced Care Veterinary we felt encouraged to setup the initial consultation with Dr. Stramel. He was extremely thorough in assessing Niki and recommended a plan to get her knees stabilized and stronger again, it included combination of water treadmill, laser, acupuncture therapy and home exercises. From April till date, Niki has responded extremely very well to the therapy routine and has made major strides getting better and stronger week over week. We also want to specifically call out the Heather and Lori for handling Niki with outmost care and making it a truly positive experience for her, they are simply amazing ladies and me and my wife feel very lucky to have found you. To anyone who is looking for help for their pet, I would highly recommend their services, they truly love what they do and will provide the best possible service your pet deserves.

I have a corgi puppy who was constantly limping and we were told before seeing Dr. Stramel that she would need knee surgery. I went to meet with Dr. Stramel to get a second opinion (thank goodness I did). With the tests he did we shortly realized that her hip was the issue. He diagnosed her with hip dysplasia and we did acupuncture, laser therapy, and stem cell therapy. Now Ava can actually be a puppy. She is not limping and has all the energy in the world. I am so thankful for this amazing staff! They are so warm and welcoming and always make sure I know exactly what is going on with my dog. Ava and I love Dr. Stramel and his staff and would highly recommend them.

My dog had a herniated disc that caused spinal stroke, So my vet Dr Mark O Gorman recommended Dr Stramel to help her to walk again with with acupuncture and was the best decision we ever made, This occur on June 4 and her back legs were paralyzed and now as of Aug 27, she can walk without difficulty, tile is still hard for her but everywhere else she is fine, Thank you from the bottom of our heart and will be forever grateful, Dr Stramel and Lori are both wonderful and very nice and caring. Jenny is so much happier now that she can walk and as the weeks went by you could tell she was getting better and stronger each week.
