How to Save Money at Burkburnett Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Visiting my daughter and had a life-threatening medical emergency with one of my dogs. I thank God for Dr. Brown and his staff! They saved my Schultz’s life❣️ Doctor Brown is absolutely one of the most honest, compassionate and caring humans..let alone veterinarians that I have ever had the pleasure to meet! I am so thankful they were there for my dog else he would not be with us now❣️

I rarely post reviews except when I feel they should be posted.. I am visiting from out of town and my dog suddenly started to act strange and had some pain. I worried about her all night and then I called at 7:00 a.m. and spoke with Dr Brown who answered the phone at that hour because he had all calls transfer to his personal line in the event of an emergency which I found to be absolutely amazing. He advised me to call back at 8am and speak with the office staff to schedule an appointment. I called at 802 and he answered once again scheduled me for an appointment for 8:45 treated my dog right away and with the utmost care. I was expecting to leave there paying a fortune especially with him knowing I was from out of town and that did not at all happen. I am beyond pleased with this doctor, definitely recommended

Today has been a day. A Friday to be exact. My sweet 14 year old Westie has a sensitive tummy. So, when she threw up in the hallway on Wednesday night, I thought she had just gotten a bit pukey. Then this morning I woke up to very nasty poo in the hallway. She wouldn't get up. Couldn't stand, couldn't walk. She was panting and shaking and I was scared. I called my vet (PETS clinic) and they couldn't get her in. Said I would have to bring her to the after hours clinic which would cost $125 before any care could be administered. I'm not a bad pet owner. But I had no clue how much everything was going to cost and unfortunately, I am not rich. So, I called another vet she has been to (Western Hills) and was told again, too bad, come in after hours. There, it was going to be $300 for the visit before any care. Then, I called Colonial Park, $180. A Caring Heart, $150... none of these people gave a hoot that I needed care for my dog. I was okay paying upwards of $200 but I had no idea what was wrong and I couldn't afford much more than $250. I was crying and scared and I needed someone to actually care. As a last ditch effort, I called Dr. Brown's office. Thank goodness I did. The vet tech/receptionist was so very kind and told me to bring her right in. Off I drove at 3:45 to Burk. I didn't even have to wait. They got us back in a room immediately. Dr. Brown came in and did his exam, diagnosed my sweet girl and gave her some medicine. She was feeling better by the time we got home. This office isn't fancy. That doesn't bother me at all because the care and caring nature of these folks shine through. I would recommend anyone looking for good care at a reasonable price to go see these wonderful people!!!

Dr. Brown is a miracle worker. About a year ago my 3 week old kitten got very sick. The kitten almost overnight became very weak, emaciated, and near death. I called all the other vets in the area.. None of them would help. He said he would see my kitten but couldn't guarantee anything. He treated him with fluids, antibiotics and a flea treatment. He gave me a milk replacer recipe that I still use for baby animals that are struggling. I followed his instructions and my kitten was back up and running around in two days. ( my sister's cat now).. He has a gruff bedside manner but he's a very talented and caring veterinarian. His staff is also first rate.
