How to Save Money at Emergency Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Last May my dog Freya was bit by a rattlesnake and she started swelling up immediately. I rushed her over to the ER clinic, they were having a hectic day, but as soon as they saw us and how bad of a reaction Freya was having a tech literally scooped her up off the floor and took her to the back. Saturday she was seen by one vet who told me everything they needed to do and possible problems. Sunday a different vet called me and updated me and let me know I could try taking her home to see if she would do better there, she wasn't eating for them. The whole team there did such an amazing job taking care of her and we both appreciate them so much. Freya is living her best life

I had to help 2 of my doggos over the rainbow Bridge in the last 7 months, and the emergency vet was my only option at the time. They were very kind and compassionate both times, and so patient and understanding at such a difficult time. I can't thank them enough for being there when we needed them!

the techs there were phenomenal but the receptionist is TERRIBLE and that made our whole experience. I first called in panic about my 6 month old puppy. I began to tell her what’s been going on and really was just calling to see if this is normal or if I needed to bring him in. She told me that she didn’t need to hear my story and that my dog sounds fine. I was immediately shut down and was VERY upset that this is how caring someone who is helping care for our pets is. I hung up to gather myself and called back in hopes I would speak to someone else and with my luck, she answered AGAIN. I asked to speak to someone else and she raised her voice with me multiple times refusing and telling me that I need to go through her to speak to anyone. She finally slammed the phone down and put me on hold and allowed me to speak to a tech there and she was so helpful. I even expressed my frustrations with the receptionist and she understood and and apologized on the receptionists behalf. (WHICH SHE DID NOT HAVE TO DO) Imagine the receptionist bringing her child into a hospital in panic needing someone’s help and a nurse, doctor, tech, or receptionist responding to her the way she did in this situation. She would have a fit but nobody would or SHOULD do that because that is NOT how you treat someone. Either she had a HORRIBLE day or she is in the WRONG profession.

Took our 16 yr old cat Calliope over the weekend on Saturday (4/15) to have her euthanized and cremated. We were planning to do this on Monday with our regular vet but Calliope wasn't doing so well that Saturday morning. The front desk person was so kind getting the paperwork completed beforehand. Dr. Clinton was so sweet and knew exactly what to say to put our minds at ease with this decision. She explained the process with such compassion. She gave us time alone before and after with no rush. They handled Calliope with such care. The price was affordable even though it was on the weekend. I highly recommend them.

We were here last night. I had a dog who had cancer and started going downhill. I'm not from here. They were so wonderful with us and little Sara. We had a bit of a wait, but that was ok, it's an emergency clinic, it's to be expected. When we got to see the Dr. She was wonderful and patient with me. I did not feel rushed at all. Unfortunately we had to put my sweet baby to sleep. As I said before we're not from here and will only be in the area until Wednesday. The tech that was with us is going to ask the cremation people to put a rush on Sara's ashes so we can have her with us before we leave. These people are wonderful caring people. I'm glad we found them🌸🐾
