How to Save Money at All Creatures Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So I was traveling through Monteagle, TN I stopped at the truck stop for food and rest. A horrible accident happened as I was walking my dog, he was struck and run over by a tractor trailer. He seemed slightly injured, with road rash on his hind legs and tail, but his lethargy and lack of thirst and appetite, got me worried. So I took him to all creatures vet clinic. They answered the door and told me they weren't opened yet, but when I explained what had happened, they rushed me right in and began a cursory exam, reassuring me the whole time. They explained that the doctor hadn't arrived yet. But had been notified about Lucid, his injuries, and current state. The staff was so pleasant and professional they really helped ease my worries. They took him in the back and sedated him for x-rays, to determine if any internal injuries had occurred. They told me to come back in an hour and a half and they would have the results. I returned as instructed and promptly met with the Vet Dr. Gordon Bijvoet, who assured me that Lucid would be just fine. A small fracture on his pelvis and tail but no major organ damage or trauma. He said he would be sore and gimpy for a few weeks but I could expect a complete recovery in a month. He prescribed some pain medicine, and antibiotics and sent me on my way..... So it's been week and Lucid is doing great. He still has the road rash but the recovery has been remarkable. He's walking a lot better. Eating and drinking like before, I would like to thank all the staff, who are nameless to me, but are remarkable individuals, who worked as a team to provide my Lucid the best care imaginable. I recommend All Creatures to any and all pet owners, who want excellent veterinary care for their animal friends/family. Try them you'll like it, I guarantee.

First time to get established and my cat had a respiratory sickness. Dr Gordon was absolutely wonderful. We reviewed all history, asked and answered questions. Was very gentle and through on exam. Price was very reasonable.

HearMe Travel

I may not know how to pronounce his last name, but Dr. Gordon is fantastic! Empathetic, professional, kind, thorough. I’m sure the other doctors are also good, but he’s the person we’ve seen, so I stick with him. The staff are ALWAYS kind and efficient. Barring emergencies showing up while you’re there, the schedule is maintained so that the wait time is reasonable. (If I were that emergency, I’d appreciate the patience of other clients!) Everything you’d want in a Veterinary Clinic. Our new home base for maintenance, and when my boy is feeling puny.

By far the worst Veterinarian in the 3 states I have lived in. Makes it impossible to get Rx through chewy because they are mad we’re not paying them for their incompetence. Can’t get the prescriptions right, including correct medications and dosages. Chewy contacted us stating the dosages are too high for our 13 year old with congestive heart failure. Luckily Town & Country in Dechard, TN took us back in after we expressed our horror stories at this facility, and ordered our prescriptions through chewy with no issues. If we would have stayed here , we would of had to get paper prescriptions from All creatures, wait a week for them to print them out for us to pick up. Then they would have been wrong, wait another week. Drive back , pick them up. Then mail them to chewy, wait another week. Order pills through chewy, they don’t go through, call chewy, they tell us to contact All creatures, they blame chewy, chewy blames them, wait another week, then do it all again the next month , and the next month ,and the next, until you find a different veterinarian.
