How to Save Money at Flowertown Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is our first time here with our puppy Cricket and this is the cutest veterinary hospital I’ve ever been to throughout my years of owning dogs. The technicians here were very knowledgeable, friendly and were very patient with our Cricket due to him being a very nervous dog. The environment here is very bright and clean. The prices are reasonable and affordable. We will definitely be bringing Cricket back here along with any future pets we may own. Thank You to the staff and the doctor for taking care of our boy ❤️

Decided to try a new vet. Picked Flowertown, and so excited I did. He only needed one routine shot, but I mentioned his chronic ear infection he has had for seven years and his allergies. Dr Hawk first told me the previous vet prescribed the wrong med, which was a steroid and he needed an antibiotic. She also recommended a shot for his itching and licking from the allergies. It has now been 5 weeks and his ear infection is gone and the allergy shot has worked a miracle. He suffered for 7 years and now he acts like a pup. The ear infection affected his hearing and now he hears birds, planes and searches for them. The shot works perfectly. He sleeps and no more walking up to scratch. We are both sold on Flowertown

First and foremost I have always used flowertown because I was under the impression they were well educated. I have had two of my animals die because of them. One was a kitten. The second was a 15k micro bully. My dog had a condition I was not aware of because of there lack of training. Despite his condition because so noticeable to other vets they ignored it. He needed a pallet surgery that would of opened his air ways. They made comments on his first visit of his extreme panting but didn’t show much concern. Had they paid more attention to it he would still be here. The surgery that he needed was a pallet removal so it could open up his breathing way. Yet they failed me and brushed his breathing off like it was nothing. Resulting into him have a multiple episodes where he couldn’t breath and turned blue. I drove him to Florida to a professional vet that new exactly what was wrong. Despite having him on oxygen and having his pallet removal scheduled for tomorrow he had another episode today which he did not come back from. Had flower town animal hospital not wasted so much time and paid closer attention to him then he would still be here. The vet was extremely unprofessional and lack knowledge on dogs. She couldn’t figure out was wrong and gave me three possible issues but wasn’t sure. This resulted in my dog having heart failure from a panic attack because he couldn’t breath. They also smiled when I walked in the room when My dog couldn’t breath as if it was a happy moment. So unprofessional. Do not recommend at all.

HUGE shoutout to the ladies that worked this evening! I had never been there before. Normally being appointment only, I literally busted through the front door with a very gross emergency. With no hesitation, judgements, or questions they took Butters in the back, loved on him, cleaned him up, and treated him for a scary allergic reaction all while helping me with the necessities to clean myself and the car up. I am so so grateful to this team for being to amazing! Thank you ladies!

I have an extremely difficult dog with lots of health issues and we’ve seen around 6 vets over the past few years. Dr. Hawk is the only vet he lets touch him. She’s also the only vet in 5 years to figure out what was wrong with him and help treat it properly. She’s always kind, patient, and takes her time with him. I drive 20 minutes to get here and it’s well worth it.
