How to Save Money at Rush Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are so thankful for the care we received for our sweet Kona! Dr Milot and her staff are amazing! If not for her dedication and expertise we would have lost our little girl. She is with you every step of the way, lab work, tests, referrals, surgery, follow up phone calls. We had one sick pup and now she is thriving, playful and back to herself enjoying life!

Empathy poured out of every single employee. I brought my dog there who was sick and we discovered cancer. The news was devastating. I appreciated the staff’s comforting words during this difficult time!!

This is by far the best vet that I've used. Prices are very reasonable and the staff are great. I've had to visit several times, and each time they were amazing. Unfortunately, one of those times was to put one of my dogs down as she was suffering horribly. They treated us with courtesy and compassion. A private room and they have an entire program for the end of life decision. I can't say how much it meant. Edit: we have a new kitten named Sarge. We went for the well check and shots. They were very thorough and caring.

I just want to say how thankful I am to Rush veterinary center. I recently had to send my dog over the rainbow bridge and the staff was so helpful and compassionate towards my dog and family. They all were so kind, and loving toward my dog. It makes a person feel so nice! I had a breakdown during a conversation and they talked me through it and gave me privacy and comforted my family and I throughout the entire process! I felt so respected and taken care of here and I felt the same leaving my dog in the care of them. Thank you for making this difficult time a little easier. Compassion goes a long way and your team exceeded my expectations! I would recommend anyone to go here!

To begin, the name of this facility is Rush Veterinary URGENT CARE. Emphasis on the “Urgent Care.” On the morning of August 11th, I thought my 18 month dog was going to pass away. I was petrified of losing him, and I wanted to get him somewhere as soon as i possibly could have. He was having so many problems and I wasn’t sure what to do. My dog was not eating, not going to the bathroom, throwing up yellow bile, extremely lethargic, and very much not himself. I was so worried I was going to lose my best friend that morning. I thought since “urgent care” was in the name, this would be my best bet for the time being. When we arrived, we walked into the lobby, which was empty. A woman came out from the back, didn’t bother to greet us, but did ask what we needed. We explained to her that we’re having an emergency and we’re not sure what to do, and explained that we needed their help. Before we could finish another thought, she said “We’re not taking any clients right now, we are not an emergency hospital, we can’t do anything,” then walked away. This woman was on the taller side, maybe 5”7 or so, darker hair about mid length. This woman was BEYOND rude to us during our 90 second encounter with her. We told her right off the bat that we suspected him dying soon and we weren’t sure what could’ve caused him to get so sick, but might as well have been on our hands and knees begging her for any kind of help. We got the exact opposite of help. I think if she told us to go screw ourselves, that would’ve been more polite than how she said she can’t help us. I’ve never in my life been so displeased with someone in this profession. I’m not a vet myself, so I clearly didn’t know what to do. We were scared and worried sick about our dog. I would love to know how this woman treats clients that come there regularly. I do understand that we’re not regular clients for Rush, but there wasn’t anyone else in the waiting room, no one walking in behind us, nor did we hear any other animals possibly being taken care of in the back. It was my father, my dog, this RUDE woman, and myself. That being said, I do think she should have at least had the decency to simply take a look at him to let us know he’ll be okay til we get to an emergency center so we had some sort of peace of mind. Instead, she said what she said, and walked off. I would never bring my animal to this place if this is how they treat all of their clients. I wouldn’t bring my worst enemy to this facility. This woman should be monitored or put on a probationary period so one of her higher ups can see how she handles these situations.
