How to Save Money at Lawrenceville Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We were a bit behind on our dogs healthcare and found out our pervious vet’s practice had closed and lacked any way to get records to prove her health status. Both the veterinarian and the techs were so understanding and caring helping us back on track. You can tell they have the best interest of the animals they care for in mind. She had an abnormal test result that the office will be following up with but I’m so thankful we chose them for her care and know they will help us manage her health going forward!

Prompt and professional service! We arrived a few minutes early to our appointment and went right into an exam room. The tech asked pertinent health questions about my malamute, Mel. Dr Mansfield saw Mel shortly thereafter and we had a diagnosis and a prescription in no time. I highly recommend this clinic.

I switched over to this vet clinic a year ago because of the great reviews. Sadly, this will be the first time in my 46 years of life that I feel compelled to write a negative review about a businuess as I feel others need to be warned. Dr. Mansfield and his team were initially very welcoming of myself and my 6 month old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. As a first time dog owner, I occasionallyt asked questions about why such and such a treatment was recommended - not because I ever questioned the expertise of the Doctor but because I love my puppy and am always interested in learning more - I've always been curious about how things work and want to educate myself. After not having seen the vet for a number of months, I placed a call just today to get my puppy a renewal of his Simparica Trio medication and asked for the vet's opinion on switching over to another comparable medication called Nexgard Spectra. The receptionist got Dr. Mansfield on the phone and, to my shock, he proceeded very curtly to let me know that he didn't feel his clinic was a good fit for Teddy and I. When I politely asked "Can you tell me why?" His response was, "No I don't have to ... you questioned everything we did." So now I am writing this review so that potential future customers realize that although this is clearly an excellent clinic (based on all the positive reviews), there is an unfortunate hypersensitivity and/or insecurity that could result in customers feeling like they cannot ask questions. For first-time dog owners like myself that are still trying to figure everything out, this could be expecially detrimental. Again, I take no delight in writing this review but feel it necessary to let customers know the facts so they can make an informed decision. I wish Dr. Mansfield and his team well. Update: Just called again to ask for my puppy's medical records. Dr. Mansfield picked up and said, "We're blocking your number" and then hung up. I just sent a polite e-mail explaining that I was simply calling for Teddy's records. We shall see ...

I couldn’t be happier with our experience here! I have a 9 year old Shih Tzu and Dr. Mansfield was so thorough in going over her medical history and things to look out for in the future. The staff were kind and incredibly prompt which I appreciate so much, and the space was clean which I imagine is hard to keep up with at a vet clinic. Due to moving around a bit, my dog has been to three different vets in the Pittsburgh area and while they’ve all provided great care, I was most impressed by the care, staff, and provider at Lawrenceville Vet Clinic.

Great staff. Very caring, friendly, and informative. The facilty is clean and well equipped. Dr. Mansfield explained to us about a lump from our dog's jaw. He did surgery to remove it. The office also has convenient parking right in front. The staff is also great with communications.👍
