How to Save Money at Milford Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I'd make it zero if I could. I have never had a more terrible experience with a veterinarian. I moved to Quakertown in 2018 but continued to bring my cats to my previous veterinarian, but the hour-long drive was very stressful for them. After Allison at the front desk helped me get their records transferred, I let her know I have 20 years of experience with cat care and fostering as a volunteer; the latter decade has been hospice fostering – entrusted with the most fragile cats. I brought my cat Zelda in for a checkup and I thought Dr. Jamison was a bit rough with her, but not hurtful. For my other cat, Oreo, I specifically told Allison that the ONLY appointment I'd make for him would be euthanasia. A cat that could vault over a baby gate now struggled to walk up a couple stairs. He was 16 years old. He was receiving Cosequin and this was in his records – along with EVERYTHING else. And he was in pain. I had to hold him in the car because he was a Norwegian Forest Cat mix and 27 pounds as my parents drove us to Dr. Jamison's office – 29 days after I brought my cat Zelda for a check-up and shots. She was sick for a couple days after. I sobbed as I held my suffering, elderly cat in the lobby – that reeks of ammonia. When we were called in, they put him on a metal table with no towels or any kind of comfort, Dr. Jamison started asking questions. Before I could answer any question, she'd talk over me and ask another, and I realized she likely hadn't read his file or notes at all. I begged her – with my DECADE of experience with hospice fostering work – to please end his suffering. After about 60 seconds, she said, “Well, then I can't help you.” And she walked out. The attached is the record I received. It's full of lies; he had broken teeth that I had recently discovered; however dental calculus - because I know how to remove it – was not present. My five-year-old stepdaughter writes better than this. My parents drove us back home, as I hugged my dying cat and sobbed. In the elevator, he urinated down my hip and I had to take my shoe off. After two DECADES of volunteerism, I've NEVER met someone who is a veterinarian and so absolutely heartless. It was three days before I received assistance from a friend, and for those three days – I got to watch him suffer, and I suffered alongside him knowing that I'd already prepared to say goodbye.

Best vet around. Dr. Jameson is an animal lover who consistently goes above and beyond to help all of our furry family members out! She is compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. I wouldn't go to any other vet!

Dr.Jamison is the most down to earth person. Very good with all my animals. I drive an hour to her office . Always have a great experience!

Unfortunately we won't bring our pets back. My wife seen conflicting information online and brought it up. She was looking for clarification. I was in the waiting room when I heard the vet screeming at my wife. I don't care what my wife said, the only one you could hear yelling was the vet. The cheaper visit was not worth the panic attack my wife had to deal with after.

"Dr" Kathy Jamison is an animal abuser and should be reported as such. She SCREAMED at my sister and shook her cats crate with him inside around because she "was just having a bad day." My sister was there to get her animal checked out so she could fix the problem he was having, not be told to go elsewhere and that the food that millions of other pet owners feed their animals is "poison." Pet owners beware. This woman is toxic to your animals! I'm working on reporting her and I urge anyone who has had a similar experience with this woman, do the same.
