How to Save Money at Lehigh Valley Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have used them for years. Dr. Meyer and Dr. Hersh have always been absolutely AMAZING! All the receptionists and nurses are very friendly, and welcoming. Xavia (my Rottweiler) and Dil (my Frenchie) love coming here!

DO NOT WASTE THE LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY WILL CHARGE YOU! They were rude to me the moment I got into the exam room. No compassion. Made me buy medicine my dog doesn’t need by shaming me into it and also reopened a wound on his leg that was already healing nicely (not the cause of our visit). When my last dog was in his last days, they refused to see him and referred us to the emergency vet. We had been established patients here for YEARS prior. While some staff is kind, there is an overwhelming amount there who do not seem professional, courteous, or compassionate. They have lost my business after they have treated me and my dogs so awfully and tremendously over charging. I will never be returning. Update: They mentioned below they cannot find my name in the system… This is because I was 12 when we started going to this animal hospital and it’s under my parents name. I have told them this in person and over email multiple times. They will not be hearing from us.

I wasn’t going to leave a review but I’m still very upset, my dog was throwing up and I called before getting there so they could get his info and see him as soon as possible, the lady that answered was so passive aggressive for no reason! I was literally panicking while holding my dog and she began to tell me the prices instead of asking about my dogs health. I understand they have to inform patients about how (Unnecessarily) high their prices are but she didn't have to be so rude about it… no compassion whatsoever I’m glad I ended up going somewhere else

Their quality of care is okay. Can't say it's anything that goes the extra mile even with how expensive this place is. What's worse is their professionalism. I took both my dogs in for routine care. They called me the next day (Friday) saying that one of my dogs was perfectly fine and passed everything. My other "the vet will be calling you either later today or some time next week" Obviously, I was panicked because both are acting happy and healthy and no dog owner wants to hear that. I asked the girl what's going on and she snickers "she just has some things going on, the vet will be in touch." End of conversation. I call back later on Monday within their posted business hours since I still hadn't heard anything and spent my weekend worrying. Got their voicemail stating they were closed already even though according to google they were not. They state they are "so busy" but then end up closing early. Then I call back today since I still hadn't heard anything. Wait on hold for a good five minutes just to learn that apparently their vet isn't in and she won't be back until tomorrow so "as long as she has a moment" she will call me. So now we are going on 5 days of me knowing that something is going on with my animal, but hearing nothing from who I rely on for that information. No apologies, just attitude and being cast aside. This place is not worth the money they ask just to treat clients this way. We will be switching vets as soon as this nightmare is over.

Vet for 20+ years. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with one of the vets two years ago. I usually ask for Dr. Gregory, who is amazing and wonderful. But, I could not get her and our dog was very sick. So we were assigned another vet. She Made me feel like my dog and I were unimportant. She was too busy for us. My dog died a few months later, not from anything done here. He had a tumor which during the course of care spread to multiple organs. It took too long to discover and too long for everything. I just felt like no one really cared. RIP Brodie... We love you and would have done anything to help you.
