How to Save Money at Allentown Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Dan is a good vet. Has taken adequate care of our pets throughout the past several years. He appears to listen to our concerns and addresses them with accuracy. However it should be noted it has not been all pleasant the experiences with some of the other staff, mostly concerning communication and transparency. We continue to partronize their business and would probably recommend to others.

Had been taking my cats here but changed vets as I moved recently. This clinic does not seem to have the best interest of the pets in mind. Or maybe they are just overworked (always seems busy there). One of my cats has early stage kidney disease and had been on medication for high blood pressure. While in care of this clinic I had mentioned concerns for his lack of appetite. Asked if change in medication or diet could help. They dismissed me and blamed it as an issue with his kidney disease. And said we shouldn’t change any thing. Didn’t give me any other options for treatment. During the move I wasn’t able to refill his prescription and noticed he got his appetite back. His new vet informed me lack of appetite and lethargy were symptoms of the medicine was taking. They offered we could try a more mild blood pressure medication and see how he does with that. Not being upfront with side effects medications may cause, dismissing concerns, and not giving other options to find the best treatment FOR THE PET. Is malpractice at best. This clinic is also more expensive. I don’t mind paying more for quality care. But to be dismissed and feel like they only care about how they can get more money from me? Not worth the cost. Don’t take your pet here. And if you do and you feel like you aren’t being listened too please get a second opinion. 💕

We had our first emergency with one of our babies Roxy. I came home and she greeted me just fine with the other dogs. After an hour, I noticed she was “frozen in place”. She could not move! And when she tried she stumbled. I freaked out and called my wife and daughter to rush to the vet. Our normal vet was closed. We put her in the back seat of my truck and started calling EVERY WHERE. Every place was overwhelmed. My wife thought quick and remembered Allentown animal clinic. We called and they said they could see Roxy. We were very pleased in the way they treated us and especially our Roxy. Everyone was very nice and caring from the techs to the receptionist to the doctor. They quickly assessed her and did some tests. We are definitely going to make a change with our veterinarian and we highly recommend this place.

On my return to the hospital for a yearly checkup for my tortoise, Dr. Dan was just as thorough as he was the first time. The techs and assistants were attentive and very helpful as well. The receptionist and any interns were just as pleasant and from giving directions on getting to the hospital when stuck in traffic, to how the physical place was and still is, clean and bright. For my experience the entire visit was once again pleasant and I feel as though all were genuinely concerned about my tortoise. The entire place is hustling and bustling and I never felt "lost in the crowd".

Heroes. My cockatiel David was not himself so I wanted to take him to the vet. Countless phone calls ended up in failure because most vets don’t take birds or any exotic animals. I found AAC on a Google search and I gave them a call. Was able to get in next day. Dr. Sawickij and her staff were very accommodating and and very supportive. They also gave some helpful tips and an avian care packet with more information. David did receive medicine and was very good with the staff. He was sent home with medicine that he is taking to very well. Thank you AAC! David thanks you as well.
