How to Save Money at Veneta Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Friendly and very professional care for my babies. I drive out here from Eugene because they are affordable. When I had to put my cat to sleep my vet in Eugene wanted to charge almost 700! Half that here and even got her paw prints included. The care they offer my dog is also superb. They don't try to sell me stuff I don't need.

This place lies and tells you what you want to hear and then when you get there, they do nothing. I went in thinking they would help me with a diagnosis I already had. They told me nothing new - said "you already have a diagnoses and we don't treat that here - we refer it out". So she did an "exam" on my dog - not even thorough (no temp taken) and they had me wait for almost an hour. They are unprofessional and do not have integrity here. Do not bring your pets here. Huge waste of money and time!!! So disappointed - $73 for literally nothing LOL I feel so dumb. They scammed me

Charged us more money for us to spade our cat after the DR. said that she was still in heat. The problem is that the DR. Three weeks before scheduled this appointment so that she wouldn't be in heat. No call to tell us she was still in heat just a ok this we be extra!! Very disappointing to have your local vet cheat you out of 15 bucks! This is more about honesty then anything. I feel taken advantage of by by local vet and I’m kinda in a bad place, do I drive 10 to 15 miles to a better vet or do I expect to be nickel and dimes every time we bring our fur babies here. We were told 4 different stories about how long cats can be in heat when we confronted them.

This place is professional, friendly, clean and very knowledgeable! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommend!! We are new to town and needed to get into a vet as my dog is due for some shots. It's hard traveling and trying to find a vet that will take on new clients, especially during these times. When I called them, they were so helpful, friendly and I got Mavis (my dog) in for an appointment! :) When we arrived, the front desk lady greeted me and made me feel very welcomed as a newcomer! We waited on the waiting room which is huge! That a good plus for me as I have a big Bloodhound- small waiting rooms with tons of dogs and cat around can be a little complicated.. Once we got into our room the 'doggie nurse' was super sweet with asking questions about my dog, listened to her heart, looked in her ears and was overall very attentive to my dog! 😊 The Vet then came in and was also very knowledgeable too! She even helped me research going to Alaska and what my pets requirements would be - which I had no idea- and thankfully she went above and beyond helping me- because they need a health certificate 30 days before we get on the ferry!! Whew! She helped me dodge that disaster before it even happened! THANK YOU! ❤️ So we will be back again soon, within those 30days! 😊 They really do care for you and your pet here and it shows on their work! My dog was so comfortable with them and Mavis even ate a treat they gave her - which she NEVER has done before in the 7 years of having her! So I feel like that was a very good sign of good people who work there! 💕 Love this place and wish this was my primary vet!!! Highly highly recommend!!

Dr Gildersleeve made the heartbreaking experience of putting our beloved dog down as peaceful as possible. He was grounding and empathetic, talked us through the whole process and made sure we were ready when the time came. This was our first experience with this vet and we would make the drive from Eugene just to use Dr Gildersleeve in the future.
