How to Save Money at Fremont Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Had the best experience with my dog being a new patient. Availability was a bit scheduled out but definitely worth the wait. All staff and Dr. Johnson were very attentive. It was kind of the Dr. to welcome me to the neighborhood during the exam. Will be transferring care for my 3 other dogs here asap. Megan is also a pleasure over the phone and extremely helpful. Fremont Vet thank you for all that you do!

We love Fremont Vet! My boyfriend and I take all three of our dogs and my cat to this clinic and I’ve had amazing experiences with every doctor and assistant. The front desk staff always greets me and checks me in right away so I’m surprised to read anyone else has had a different experience. We have a lot of animals obviously so I am there a lot especially because we just adopted a new puppy about 4 months ago and I’ve never had the front office staff not be professional and attentive. I haven’t had any issues with making appointments and I find their pricing to be reasonable. We just spayed our female puppy and they did an amazing job. She’s my baby so I didn’t go want to go anywhere else. Also anyone complaining that sometimes vet clinics have to recommend you to emergency care when they can’t fit you in is being extremely privileged. Sometimes vets don’t have the capacity and the few times we have had to use the emergency vet clinic in Beaverton we have had an amazing experience. Would highly recommend that emergency center over the one in Portland. It’s worth the drive. It’s never a vet offices fault if they are at capacity and they are actually giving you the best advice of how to take care of your pet in that situation. Remember being a vet tech is a hard job that doesn’t always come with the highest salary and everyone is doing their best after the pandemic so complaining about this is never a reflection of Fremont. I highly highly recommend Fremont for all your animal family! The only small suggestion I would give is making it easier for updates to go to both parties when suggested. My boyfriend is listed as the main contact on our account so he gets all the emails texts appointment reminders and paperwork etc in his name. But the puppy and the cat are mine and since I work at home I take all the animals to their appointments. We have asked several times for both of us to be contacted with everything and it hasn’t happened. I know that’s probably more a reflection of their system and a request that might not go with how the system operates but that’s my only little issue we have had which is very specific and not something I hold against them. Haha

My kitties love to visit Fremont Vets. The receptionists, vet techs, and veterinarians are so friendly. They love cats, don't over-recommend meds, and are very respectful of our choices. They even managed to trim Boot's nail in just a few minutes. Miracle! So glad they are our vets.

Someone told me they help with my dog's medication that's false all they do is neuter and spayed I don't believe in neutering male dogs spading female cats and dogs is a little different cats spray and females get vicious dogs turn into girls. It's all about the trainer the owner and socializing unless you're not responsible pet owner in that case you shouldn't have that animal anyways take it for what you want don't neuter don't crop ears or tails I see a dog with cropped ears and bandages on his ears or tail I will take that dog from you pure and simple

We've now used Fremont Veterinary Clinic for two of our dogs -- one very old, and the other just a puppy. Everyone that we've engaged with here has been nothing but delightful. I never feel like I'm being sold to, or pressured. Could not recommend them more. I must also give a special shoutout to Dan Paquet, one of the amazing vet techs there. Dan has gone ABOVE and BEYOND to help me with some very obnoxious paperwork for an international health certificate, and he has been so kind, responsive, and helpful throughout. Could not be more grateful for his help. (THANK YOU, DAN!)
