How to Save Money at Oregon City Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

What an amazing staff and an incredible environment! I am in town visiting for work and my puppy (whom I just purchased) started having copious amounts of blood in the stool! So, I got on the phone and every place that couldn’t take us recommended Oregon City Veterinary Clinic and boy am I glad they did! Dr. Beck and her staff made the entire experience so much more enjoyable given the circumstances. They were attentive, saw us as soon as they possibly could, examined my pet with excellent bedside manner and sent us away with everything we could possibly need and more! The icing on the cake is that my puppy made a complete 180 after receiving care from them! Oregon resident or not, if you need veterinary care this is the place to go!

I needed to get in to see a vet same day. I called several clinics. Everyone told me the could not do until the first of the week or longer. My pet had blood in her urine so I didn't want to wait. I called this clinic and they told me come in as soon as I could. When I got there I was seen right away but eventually took quite a bit of time but what I really appreciated was they explained everything including the cost before they did anything. It was worth the time and drive. Everyone was so professional and caring to my pet and myself. They even apologized for the wait. I am now their client and will refer them to friends and family!

DO NOT use this clinic. Do not be fooled by the supposed “convenience” of them being able to get u in quickly (there’s a reason for that). After his surgery they didn’t take the time or consideration to ensure that he had the proper cone so that he couldn’t reach they suture sight. Furthermore they kept my dog collar. Lastly when picking my dog up with my baby the staff member gets him (a 60 lb 8 mo old German Shepard) and hands him to me in this tiny waiting room that’s full of other dogs and people and THEN tries to explain to me what I need to do for him WHILE I’m holding a very rambunctious puppy who’s been cooped up all day AND a baby. Neither of the staff members offered to help although it was OBVIOUS I was unable to do both and it took another customer to graciously step in for me to get them outside.

Brought my son’s puppy in for a possible UTI. We received extremely quick and thorough care. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. I’m am extremely impressed! May 31 Came back with our pup and older dog as well today and saw Dr Carol. She is AMAZING! Sat right on the floor with my girls and talked through everything. Wait times were reasonable and staff was once again extremely friendly and helpful.

I've been going to this vet clinic for over 20 years. In the beginning when they were a small business and OregonCity wasn't as populated, having the first come first serve - no appointment option worked well. Over the years, especially the last several, things have really gone downhill. You can end up waiting for HOURS To have your pet seen. And if you work a job and don't have that time to wait, it's super inconvenient. I was told recently that I would have about a 30 minute wait if I came immediately . I love 2 minutes away. I immediately drove down to the clinic and waited over two hours I had to get back to work And had to forgo some things because I didn't have time to wait any longer. What a waste of my time. My daughter had a similar experience recently. I've just canceled my spay for my other puppy and I'm going to be moving locations. OCV should really take down their "accepting new patients" sign because unless you're lucky you're going to wait a long time to have your pet seen. They need to change to an appointments based clinic if they want to grow and keep happy customers.
