How to Save Money at Myrtle Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

For the most part we have had good experiences with both the Coquille and Myrtle Point Clinic, altho' we do prefer going to the M.P. one for the main reason that we get to stop at A&W for a burger and root beer float if my Lil Miss Riley was a good patient...lol..Very friendly staff and always gentle and good with her. Takes time to answer my questions and go over any treatment or alternative treatments.

I had 3 visits here and although they may be on the pricey side, you get what you pay for! New in town, with the only dog I’ve ever had that loved going to the vet, thanks to the great care we received at Raintree Vet in Hoquiam, WA., I took my dog Charlie Brown, a 175lb Rotti here due to what I thought was an injury resulting from my new slippery hardwood floors. After 2 visits it was revealed that he had cancer and they couldn’t have been more compassionate when I made that hard choice. It would’ve been easy to place my anger/grief on them and they probably even anticipated that but the truth is they met my sweet boy and couldn’t have been more compassionate to him or myself under the circumstances. I received a sympathy card, signed by more people than I even realized worked there and a stone with his paw print that told me these people really care about animals and their owners. If you don’t appreciate what they do then you should try working at a shelter and I guarantee you’ll see that these people are a special breed that are willing to do what they do regardless of the inevitable heartbreak that comes with the job and often times the misdirected grief of the owner. I have rescued a new dog and will be calling today to make his first appt. Thanks to all of you for what you do! Sandie C. Charlie Browns Mom

After over a decade of getting a massive feral cat population under control and maintained on our property in the Lincoln City area, we and six of our rescues relocated to Gold Beach to find that absolutely no veterinarian on the coast would accept us as new clients. Due to a significant injury to our most elderly feral, it became urgent that we find immediate attention and I cannot tell you what a painful experience it was to be recipients of the lack of kindness and compassion, let alone offers of information or assistance we found from numerous "resources" in this area. I thank God that we found this organization. The professionalism, the humanity and just plain sweet attitude displayed by every person on the phone and every person I came into contact with as they diagnosed the multitude of ailments in poor old Frankie yesterday will never be forgotten. They healed so much more than an old, injured kitty. We have taken personal, financial responsibility for rescuing and maintaining well over 30 cats over the years and will continue to do the same for the remainder of our lives. While the trips to and from this clinic will be over 160 miles, all of our future needs will be directed to this incredibly worthy organization. Doctor Amy and her staff have hit upon a secret that far too many have missed, somehow... treat others as you would like to be treated; be kind and professional when you are having a hard day at work and remember - this is our "family" in need and pain. Compassion should be job one. Thank you for getting it so right.

They are so amazing, helpful, friendly and kind.. our dog had bladder stones, and required a very expensive surgery. They were so kind and understanding. It's been over a year now and our dog is healthy and happy! And I am grateful we have more time with her.
