How to Save Money at Granger Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Tongish is always very thorough when discussing patient visits and makes sure he answers all questions. He does his very best to be mindful of your pocket book for anything beyond office visits. The staff are always friendly. Both Doc and staff love ur pets like your own and treat the animals with good care.

The staff gets 5 stars, however the one star is for the vet. He did not interact well with our dog and he made us feel very uncomfortable. It is possible that he is knowledgeable, so if you can deal with his personality, this might be a decent place. I prefer a vet who truly cares about our pet and has better customer service skills.

My dog has always been afraid of the vet but the vet took his time getting to know my dog snd got him to relax for his physical.

I love this vet. As long as we live here I will never take my dog anywhere else! He is educational, accommodating, and friendly. He won’t push procedures on you, and he gives a range of options and costs for your pet’s care. The staff have great communication, and my dog loves them.

I am giving this place only one star because the receptionist at the front desk was very pleasant the numerous times I had to continue to go back due to such poor quality of vet care I received at Granger Veterinary Hospital. My original post was deleted so I feel obligated to let customs know the experience I had so they don’t make the mistake I made. My dog had a massive surgery there in October of 2018 that almost caused her to die. My dog ended up with a horrible infection right after the surgery, then I was told that the only one antibiotic that could cure the infection had to be mailed ordered from the lab they use in Texas. After ordering the antibiotics from Texas and paying extra overnight shipping they still did not arrive until 6 days later. I then found out the Hospital in Copley Ohio a 10 minute drive away had them in stock. Keep in mind this was after being told no one had this medication. This place did not care when I informed them of the poor condition my dog was in after being in their care, nor did they return any of my emergency calls I made the 3 times I called at 5:30p. Let’s also not forget to mention the quote of $1200 that ended up to be over $6000. Hopefully this rating does not also get removed as my last rating did. I am a reasonable person that expected a veterinarian to be compassionate and care about my dog, this place is all about collecting $$$. They did not even call once during the weekend my dog had the massive surgery then due to no drainage being put in after the surgery the body had no where to let the fluid out which caused my dog not to be able to walk and caused the horrible infection. $450 later which they charged me for draining her leg due to the massive fluid build up. Very bad care and huge delays in test results . My dog has been thriving ever since I changed vets. I was also told the 2 tumors were cancer free when in fact one of them was not and I had to have another surgery 3 months later. I will continue to post my review each time it gets deleted due to this establishment not wanting customers to know the truth. This is my rating and my experience it should not be deleted.
