How to Save Money at Pets On the Go

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Some reviews on here is down right rude. Sorry you didn't get your way, instead of being nasty maybe you should take that energy and put it into taking care of your animals... Dr. Julie is amazing. She has helped us sooooo many times with so many animals from dog, guinea pig, to a gecko. She adopts animals that people want to put down, yet still has life. She cares and loves her animals very much. Thank you Julie and all workers for making that place great!

I can confidently say this is the worst establishment I have ever been to. The first time I went here, I was charged to be breaded for my bearded dragon care, specifically his tank (60 gallons), which I find mighty ironic as Pets On the Go is currently housing an Iguana which I estimate to be around four feet long, in what I can only call a box, that is no more than three feet long. Doctor Julie is sour and unpleasant to both her customers and employees. To my dismay, I was dragged back to this shady scam shack as we had a litter of puppies due for a check-up. Doctor Julie took our puppies, administered medicine that we did not want them to have, without consulting us (Which i now realize, reading reveiws, is a common theme of hers.) And left us waiting for over an hour. After that experience, we agreed we’d never return though, once again, to my utter displeasure, my father scheduled another appointment with Doctor Julie. This time, We had to take it into our own hands to verify the price because Julie has no decency to do a bare minimum consultation with her patients. The question of price was promply dismissed by Julie. She attempted to charge us $155 for a check up on a litter of four puppies, to which she was met with proof that in her text consultation she had stated, for the litter, she would charge $55. Of course she dismissed this as well. Julie is a cold, rude, scam artist who cares not about the animals she is treating, but about the amount of money she can pocket at the end of the day.

My name is Lexie (vet tech assistant) I work for Dr.Julie at Pets On The Go ! Some of these comments are just down right rude, no respect at all because what.. you didn’t get your way?? It wasn’t the price you wanted??Julie does all she can to put her self first above anyone or anything. For those that don’t know her Mom died within a month or so and her Dad just recently died and she’ll be attending the funeral this Thursday. Even though she had emotions going crazy today she still put all of YOUR sick pets above her. The birds, cats, and the lizard are NOT by any means abused their rescues that those couldn’t take care of due to health, or were willed to her, or just didn’t want. The lizard Flame ( MY FAV) she raised since a baby along with 5 more !! Haha She is one of the most generous, kind, loving, caring, individual that I have ever meant most of all worked for , im so thankful everyday that Julie took me in to do what I love most.

After calling 8 vets to avoid an urgent care visit for my cat, they got us in and all taken care for less than half what it would have been elsewhere! On a Saturday no less! I really appreciate the staff and Dr for being awesome and putting the care of an animal first! New customer for life!!

Dr. Julie was absolutely amazing. She was very understanding and patient with my girl Piper who has pretty severe aggression issues. I highly recommend.
