How to Save Money at VCA North Ridge Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This team is absolutely wonderful. My Mom took her cat with a mass that was in her ear. After seeing a previous vet she was told she had a rare ear infection and would need surgery. Not knowing what to do her cat started to go downhill, was barely eating and wasn’t herself from the pain in her ear. We made an appt at North Ridge and was welcomed by their awesome staff Kristina and Stephanie. April took us back and asked questions, then Betsy Halas came in and said we can fix this no problem. She did just that! She also called to follow up a few days later which was also super nice. My Moms cat is literally like a new cat. Up and running around again, eating, and just full of it. Thank you North Ridge for all you do!

What a wonderful veterinary clinic!!! From the moment I called and scheduled my appointment, walked through the door the service was top notch. Our first visit with Dr. Halas-Colon was great. She took a look at my dog and gave her a thorough check-up and listened to all our questions and concerns. After she made her recommendations and we scheduled my dogs surgery. We felt confident with the information received and we left feeling confident putting my dogs health in her hands My dog did so well and she is recuperating better than expected. The receptionist, surgical technicians, veterinarian professionals were wonderful and so friendly. The lobby or waiting room is spacious and it allows for proper distance and comfort to help keep pets distant from each other. Dr. Halas-Colon will always be my pets vet! We will continue to drive an hour for "Best in Class" service.

I've been going here for years mainly because it's close and my animals are special needs. They do their best, but are understaffed doctor wise. It takes longer to get appointments and often times the hours of operation on Google say closed, but they are actually open. VCA buying the company didn't help either. It genuinely hurts only giving 3 stars

I can’t thank VCA enough for the care my girl gets every time we come in for a visit. Specifically one incident when my girl was 4mo old. -Story Time- On Nov 15 at minutes before closing,,, We came in because Zeva was shaking and started to have seizures. It was a late night visit that ended up at the ER vet as well. Zeva had a total of 52 seizures that night and was totally paralyzed by morning. It was decided that given her young age and the condition she was in after that night, she be put to rest😥 The next day at 10 Am we walked into out appointment seeing Dr Pawl. Before we let her go, Dr Pawl decided to try one more thing, and that I have no clue what it was called but she is a miracle worker!😲 Zeva paralyzed an unable to move was brought back to life like the little crazy puppy I knew she was. The team and doctors at this facility are above any others I have EVER visited. Thank you Dr Pawl, Dr Halais, and ALL the vet techs and front desk workers for saving my Best Friend. Thank you for the continued care every time we visit. There isn’t anything I could say to show how much I truly appreciate this team! Thank you! Thank you! Keep Up the Amazing work, and Keep saving lives!

When my dog started having problems in the middle of the night on a Sunday, we weren’t sure where we’d be able to get him in the next day. North Ridge was able to take him and get him sorted out first thing with subcutaneous fluids and some special food to get his belly sorted out. Then, my cat started throwing up almost daily and losing drastic amounts of weight, and we had no idea why. Dr. Mohammadpour patiently took us step by step through the process of figuring out what was wrong. He now has a diagnosis and prescription food, his weight has stabilized, and the daily vomiting has stopped. We are so grateful for the care they’ve received. North Ridge doesn’t cut corners, and they go out of their way to show that they care about our pets as much as we do.
