How to Save Money at The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center at Dublin URGENT CARE

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our dog fell off a drop off into an active quarry, and broke her femur badly. Our vet suggested we take her to OSU Vets in Dublin about 2 hours away for her surgery the next day. They are so caring and explain everything so well. They take great care of pets and do not care if you call in to check on them and see how they’re doing (even though I felt annoying doing so! They reassured us it is not annoying to them) - her surgery went great and she’s home now healing, but we cannot say enough great things about them! Everyone took great care of Pepper while she was with them. And front desk is very friendly and helpful as well!

Had an absolutely horrific experience last Wednesday. Waited over 4 hours to see a Vet. When I asked how long I was told verbatim “your dog is not considered a priority”. I’m not sure who taught these folks bedside manner but I am sure if your dog was sick they’d be your priority. Should remove that from staff vocabulary and make sure that at all patients are treated equally. What if my pup had suddenly worsened conditions? Not seeing or being checked on more than once over those 4 hours was also horrifying. Furthermore, when the doctor finally came in she was extremely rude and condescending. Basically said hey sorry we charged you $300.00+ we didn’t find anything, best of luck! While I understand that a diagnosis is not always possible, the Vet not only said she had no idea but also did not schedule us for any kind of follow up. I also shared with her the prior visits we had and what had been found and she still did nothing. This is my puppy. Treat them like they matter, treat them all like priorities. If you can find a fix on the day then get a plan of action set up for patients. You’d think that was the norm but apparently not. Understaffing is no longer an excuse. Pay people more or find other ways to make you a viable employer. These are medically trained staff. Embarrassed for and on behalf of all of the staff that I spoke with that day. Do better.

I cannot say enough good things about our experience with OSU Dublin Urgent Care! The front desk staff was so friendly, helpful and efficient from the start. They were thorough in explaining treatment and payment protocol. The vet was direct and kind in explaining her thoughts on our puppy’s situation. She offered several treatments (from no treatment to x-rays and testing) and helped us weigh the best options. When we decided on x-rays, I explained that I was on a time crunch. She rallied the troops and got images, shared them with me and had us out of there in about 40 minutes! Communication was clear after our visit, receipts were emailed immediately, and next steps were planned. I give them 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!! Thank you thank you for a great visit!

We've taken our dog here twice now for after-hours pet emergencies over the years, and both times the experience has been excellent. From the front desk staff, to the vets and vet techs, everyone was kind, communicative, and got our dog the care he needed as soon as possible. There is often a wait to see the vet, but the staff will let you know if so and triage your pet promptly. We will definitely choose this location again for any future emergencies.

They have fixed both my dogs knees. She is doing so much better thanks to their expert care. Looking forward to being able to hike again soon!
