How to Save Money at Care Center Cincinnati

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to visit Care Center with my cat, Batman, on a Saturday evening. The staff was terrific. It was a holiday weekend, so it was pretty busy, with a steady stream in pets coming in throughout the night. We initially waited a little over an hour, which made sense, as there seemed to be several other animals with more critical concerns coming through the lobby. When I asked if we could wait in an exam room, so I could let my cat out to have litter box access, the staff very kindly obliged. All of the information I got was very thorough and explained really well, which helped me feel better. My cat also had a urine culture taken, and the office was very prompt with calling me with the results. I was so impressed with the staff. I could tell how much they care for animals. Kudos to everyone working during the evening on 2/17/24. Thank you for being so kind and helpful! I don’t hope to have to visit the emergency vet anytime soon, but it’s so nice to know this resource is available in the Cincinnati area.

I cannot recommend Care Center enough. I brought my dog into the ER at about 3am. She had been sick for about two weeks and was going through various testing with her normal vet. She unexpectedly had gotten drastically worse in the middle of the night. I called before I brought her in. When I got there, I was greeted in the hallway by the vet tech Tyler. He was so warm and comforting towards my dog. After some testing, we met with Dr. Armstrong who had been running her ultrasound and tests on her. Unfortunately the news was what I didn't want to here. My poor sweet Roxie had a large mass in her abdomen, and that's why she had been so sick for two weeks. There was nothing that could be done that would ultimately save her life. Dr. Armstrong was so kind and gentle with myself and with Roxie. This was hands down the toughest moment of my life and I was just beyond thankful that Dr. Armstrong was the one who was there to get us through it. I'll forever miss my Roxie, but thankful for a positive experience through it all.

My family recently had to lay our golden retriever Zeke to rest. He was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 4 1/2. He was fine for 2 weeks and within hours his BP had dropped temperature was high and he had labored breathing. It was the time and the decision was heartbreaking. The vet was amazing comforting well educated and had a great deal of compassion for our time. We never felt rushed or encouraged with the decision but only guided. As hard as it was to make the decision to let our baby Zeke be pain free the care center helped us handle the process extremely well. This is the 2nd golden we’ve had to bring here in 2 years. Prayers it’s a long long time for us to return. But this is the best place for the best for your loved one 🙏🙏❤️❤️

The Vets and Vet techs have taken really good care of my dog, Annie, and me as well. Last night one of the Vet Techs, I believe named Katie, brought me a blanket as she noticed I was shivering because I have really low iron and their hospital was freezing (to me). Lol Annie was close to passing away and the Vets managed to get all of her vitals and body temperature back to normal again. I feel very grateful for all of them for taking such great care and giving me as much information possible. I highly recommend taking your babies here.
