How to Save Money at Avon Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been coming to Avon Animal Hospital for over 30 years. I've always gotten the very best of care for my four-legged family members here. I recommend Avon Animal Hospital to anyone who wants top-notch veterinary care.

Great animal hospital the helped my wee little piggies hurt shoulder. She had a little limp and the vet subscribed her some pains meds and some TLC. The visit was smooth and easy we found them on Google while we were camping in Ohio, I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a pet doc.

My family and I have been taking our pets to this clinic for years and never experienced an issue. Until now. The other day my husband and I took both of our cats in for check ups and rabies vaccines. The visit went mostly fine but I will not be able to award any more than 2 stars, as the exam table was dirty (covered in fur and clearly not wiped down between patients). Not to mention there was a tapeworm on the tray on top of the scale! Our cat was sat on top of it and the assistant asked me if she had tapeworm. She certainly does not. This means the tapeworm came from an animal who visited previously. The assistant also informed us the worm had been moving, therefore alive! The fact that the assistant was unaware of the worm’s presence on the scale tray shows it was not wiped and cleaned b/t patients, let alone even glanced at to determine if it was clean before use! I voiced my concerns with the vet (Anita) and she did not do much other than to assure my husband and I our cat can only get tapeworm if ingesting another animal (such as a rat or flea infected with it). Even if that is true, there should be no tapeworm or other parasite anywhere within the vicinity of where animals are getting check ups! No money was taken off my bill, as it should have been. I was not offered any other kind of compensation either. With how much you have to pay for a simple check up the items they are using to do so should certainly be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between each use. Very disappointing. I will say both assistant and vet were very kind and gentle with our cats. That is wonderful but the level of sanitation within my visit that day was not adequate.

Been going there for years. It feels like the service went down and the price went up - I took my indoor cat there because it was bleeding out of the rectum. They were more interested in charging a lot of money for vaccines. I still don’t know why it is still bleeding weeks later. I guess she won’t die of distemper.

Brought my dog in with a badly cut leg, I was told to bring him in after telling them I only had $165 bucks until I got paid 3 days later, so after bringing him in they looked at him and said his legs cut he needs surgery and because you only have 165 we won't touch him, no bandage nothing for pain just told what I already knew said take him home and deal with it till you've got money. Then charged me 165 for all the care they didn't provide and wrote a script for antibiotics I had to go fill myself and pay for separately. When I called to get him in after I got paid I was told the doctor that saw him was out and nobody else could help when I complained about their lack of caring I was told I was money hungry and hung up on this is after taking every penny I had for nothing. This place is a disgrace unless you've got deep pockets
