How to Save Money at Williamson Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

PLEASE READ!!! I don’t normally write reviews but I consider this a serious problem, this vet had zero compassion for my pet, we were told we had to put our 90 pound 1.5 year old dog down because he ate ibuprofen. They didn’t even offer to do multiple days of blood work to check on him or offer fluids or anything, it seemed like they just wanted to put him down for convenience. They were also trying to rush us because the vet that saw him was going out of town. Why would I bring my happy, playful dog in to be put down without giving him a chance? I won’t put him down because the vet is going out of town. One of the staff actually said to my boyfriend “can you even afford this?” When the vet brought up taking him to Cornell for a surgery that it turns out he didn’t even need because he is doing just fine at Hilton vet after receiving fluids for 3 days. How unprofessional and rude is that. We were not concerned about money, we were concerned about saving our dog, and the fact that someone thought it was ok to say that to a costumer is repulsive. We called another vet that night and they told us to come in the next day for fluids. Our dog is now improving tremendously and is on his way to a full recovery. The fact that williamson vet wanted to put my dog down who was showing zero signs of distress and was still eating, drinking, and playing normally without trying anything to help him is insane, especially since we were willing to try anything for our pup. I do not recommend bringing your pets here especially if it’s for anything besides shots. I definitely will never bring my pets back. I want to prevent anyone from having their pet put down for no good reason.

This is a rare veterinary clinic! My dog hurt his foot - wouldn't put it down at all. My local clinic couldn't get him in for two weeks, but Dr Semilov got him in that afternoon. I have even called her at home after hours. I have found her to be caring,

I'm not sure why I see so many bad reviews of Dr Semilov! I find her to be a VERY compassionate person who actually came into the office on her day off to take of our very sick Cat! Extremely sympathetic as a great Vet should be! My only issue is that it seems like they book 2 appts for the same time! I've never been able to be seen at my scheduled time! I get the same excuse every single appt, "The Dr is behind schedule today" The staff has always been exceptional at explaining the reasons why she may be running late except for a couple days ago! Once again I was waiting for 25 mins past my appt time and when I brought it up, the young lady at the front desk didn't bother looking at me and just said "uh huh". It seemed like she took it personal which of course it wasn't! I've never seen her there before so I'm assuming she's new. I hope they see this review and fix that problem! I'm still giving them 5 stars because the rest of the staff including the DR. are awesome! If I could I'd give them 4.5 stars! Just because of that young lady at the front desk!

My best friend earlier this week brought her 1.5 year old great dane to this vet after the dog (duke) had eaten over 200 ibreprofen. They did blood work on him and found his kidney levels through the roof. keep in mind duke was not in any visible pain and was acting pretty normal considering what he ate. instead of giving him fluids and attempting to get his kidney levels down. They vet told my friends that they had to put there dog down that night for her convenience since the vet was going out of town in a few days. my friend left and said that they weren’t doing that and was planning on putting duke down the next day. however something didn’t sit right with the fact Duke was seemingly normal and bringing a happy dog into die was not okay. so they got a second opinion at the hilton vet and they couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Duke is now getting treated at the Hilton vet where he is thriving and his kidney levels are almost back to normal and he will continue to live on a great life. shame on this williamson vet facility for having no remorse and not even attempting to save this puppy’s life. Truly disgusting how they were willing to put down a beautiful dog with not even a sorry. They don’t even deserve one star.

Crooks, They don't care about the animals. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY!!! If you aren't a client and you actually need their help urgently, they turn you away. It's because you haven't "seen them", spent money with them in the last 3 years, and they take you off the client list. Then tell they will take you as a new client but can't see my dog until 4 months because they're booked. By then it's too late, dog will be dead. They showed their true colors... BLACK AS COAL
