How to Save Money at VCA Pine Bush Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Hello, I would like to start off by saying we have used this vet for many years-I am not sure what happened but we had to take our dog Luna here for an emergency visits-she was shaking uncontrollable, she was very weak and panting-she was losing weight and not eating-you can tell she was in pain-and the vet just would not help her-he told us to give her benadryl-we knew this was not going to help-so we had to take her back in several more times and spent over $1400.00 just to be told to take her to a specialist-which was over a 2 hour ride-now understand she couldn't even go out to pee-how in the world could we drive her over 2 hours-I just can't believe he wouldn't do anything to help her. just so wrong-I would never recommend them to anyone. Even the office staff had no heart-they were always so rude. No compassion. Please do not take your animals here. We took her to another local vet and they immediately put her on medication and within a week she has improved. But because she was sick for so long, she will have to be on medication for a while. Thank you to the new vet and staff for helping her.

CEO Marger Corp

This is not a locally owned Vet office, Dr Jack sold out to a Wall Street Company a few years ago called VCA Veterinary, this is a money hungry corporation up selling and squeezing money out of people, VCA in turn sold out to the Mars Corporation for 9.1 billion so the profits are all heading to fat CATS on Wall Street PROFITS FIRST Also there are many locally owned Vets in the area This is just another Wall Street Company upselling for thier bottom line Research VCA and Mars Corp

I have to add to my review after reading a review below by a woman named Nicole. She mentioned that her dog was killed by a doctor here due to negligence. As I don’t believe this was done purposely, I am going to re-iterate what I said below. I do agree that when you call in to be seen with an urgent matter, that matter is not granted to you. They do tell you to wait, sometimes a week. I am going through something now with my younger dog, and I am considering a second opinion. As I don’t believe the diagnosis is totally correct, I am not going to be told to wait a week to come in. I will call and see what kind of answer I receive, however, I do agree that they Don’t treat emergencies very well. When I lived in Queens, whenever I had a problem all they did was tell me to just bring the dog in. No matter what, whenever I called. I think that is the type of service that should be warranted, with an animal anywhere you go. I think here they are very overworked, without enough staff. I want to give this place a 5-star rating because the doctors are very good. Don't get me wrong. The drawback is, if you have an emergency, and/or for any reason, you need to see someone right away, they don't have appointments available. When I lived in the city, my vet was so accommodating and they were like "bring her right in."I miss that. I'm so not used to this kind of service. So that is the reason I am giving this a mediocre rating.

Our family has been going to Pine Bush Animal Hospital for about 15 years and we have always been very happy with their office. Dr. Jack treats the dogs like family and as others have said, gets right down on the floor with them. It's like taking them to see an old friend. Recently we've seen Dr. Evans and he has been fantastic with my dog as well. I highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a vet.

I have been taking my feline family to Pine Bush Animal Hospital for 27 years and couldn't be happier. Dr. Jack care and that of the staff have been outstanding. They have always been there for me each and every time I visited them either for a checkup and/or for an emergency. It is a pleasure to recommend them to other pet owners!
