How to Save Money at Palmyra Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I refuse to ever come here again. I had brought my cat in after she fell down my stairs and was acting very strange and wobbly. They said it was a concussion and have her a steroid shot. The shot worked for a few days but she started declining again so we brought her back in and then suddenly they wanted to just euthanize her. My cat was only 3, she was young so I wanted to keep trying cuz she didn’t look like she was giving up. They gave her another steroid shot and some oral steroids to take for 2 weeks. She was doing really good, her two weeks were almost and she suddenly started to go down hill again, we came home and found her breathing really shallow and practically unresponsive. We immediately called the vets office and were asking what to do, if we should bring her in and either dr Nealey herself or one of her staff members blatantly degraded us and when we got upset for being blamed, they hung up and refused to answer our many pleading phone calls…my cat passed away in my arms about 10 minutes later. We called begging for help and they blamed us and then completely ghosted us. I’m nauseated at the lack of compassion if not for the owners but for the animals that depend of them.

Doctor nealey is the best veterinarian I've ever had. she's seen all of my cats and dogs in the last 6 years. It all started with a kitten that was injured and became in my care. At the time Dr. Nealey was the only person to say that she could help with what became a "caution kitty" you know the kinda cat that is loving and adorable with its humans but despises others especially vets. Long story short that particular caution kitty could have lost its eye but thanks to the awesomeness of the leadership and staff of this clinic no one can even tell that losing an eye was ever even a possibility. Since that visit back in 2017 Dr. Nealey and the staff at Palmyra Integrative Veterinary Hospital has and will continue to see all of my furry companions. (And I've got a lot of furry companions) . I can't speak highly enough of Doctor Rebecca Nealey and her staff. They are amazing in practice and beyond fair in pricing, but above all they are honest and a million percent out for the best interest of your fur baby. It's my understanding that doctor Nealey is also a certified veterinary acupuncturist. I've yet to need such services, but if I become in need of it. I would wholeheartedly trust Palmyra Integrative Veterinary Hospital with such services.

Will never use this place again. Not only are these people rude and condescending when you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend with them, dr nealy cut my dog off of his medication and she refuses to see him. So now I’m sitting here with an aggressive dog that wants to eat his back off because I don’t have medication for him. My dog doesn’t deserve this he is a sweetheart and this is killing me!!!!!

Do not take your animals here, they did a really bad job on spaying my cat. The incision was long and stitches were jagged and lumpy. Felt very bad for my cat afterwords.

I had gotten a kitten named sushi awhile back and brought him in for his basic checks and medical dues. Both customer service staff and doctors acted extremely warmly and were super responsive to my questions or concerns. The nurse also even showed me tips on how best to handle situations or basic needs for my cat. Adding to this, the nurse also cut me some slack on prices just because of how interested I was in my cats needs. Today, I had brought him in for a neuter, and I was late by 15min. Still took him in and welcomed me with open arms. They've been kind and helpful the whole way through, local, helpful and most of all, experienced. Great facility, good people. Check it out.
