How to Save Money at Upper East Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Honestly one of the greatest around. Dr. Goldberg and her entire staff are knowledgeable, compassionate, skilled and kind. They handled my delicate little lemon of a cat with such love. My boy was in such pain, had to have 10 teeth extracted, and now he’s finally back to himself now! Worth every penny.

We love Dr Goldberg and the whole staff! They are efficient and caring to you and your pets needs. Our cat Marshall has been a patient for a while now and although we've received an unfortunate diagnosis of cancer in our Marshall, they have been extremely empathetic and understanding of what we are going through. 😢 Their knowledge is invaluable and patient/Dr relationship is amazing. I would recommend anywhere else.

We started taking our dog to Upper East Veterinary soon after the clinic opened in their first location. Our dog had had major surgery and pretty significant GI issues, so we were hesitant to leave the big vet hospital and go to a "regular vet". After a few visits with Dr. Goldberg, Dr. Nunemacher, and the other vets in the practice, we were convinced that this was the vet practice for us. We found the vets thorough, professional compassionate/caring, knowledgeable/experienced, and honest. The staff are also a pleasure to deal with and kind - like the time they helped me get cleaned up when our dog pooped all over me in 6-degree-Fahrenheit weather. Dr. Goldberg got us through years of dealing with our dog's numerous issues, and with various changes and flare-ups as he got older and more frail. We continued being happy clients of the practice until this past weekend. At almost 18 years old, his quality of life had declined, and Dr. Goldberg and Dr. Nunemacher helped us make the decision about the right time to end his suffering, and gave us the courage to come to terms with it. Dr. Goldberg offered to come to our home and euthanize our dog. It was such a blessing to be able to have our dog be able to pass peacefully at home. In that terrible and emotional moment, I would not have wanted any other vet there. Thanks for everything, Upper East Veterinary. I highly recommend this practice to anyone!

Took my cats here before the pandemic 2018 or 2019. I took him here bc of the great reviews. DONT LISTEN TO THEM THEY ARE ALL FAKE REVIEWS! My cat had diarrhea for a couple of days and after all bloody work they did, the final total bill came to $700 -$800. I had to do all the test (almost force too and making me feel bad) bc if not it "wouldn't be fair to the cat" okay but are you going to pay half it? if so then by all means! Of course that didn't happen. ALL THEY CARE IS ABOUT THE MONEY! The results came in that same day and said that my cat didn't have anything abnormal! I went somewhere else that following week and my cat did have something! Shame on you! If you have cat take them to vet who specialize in cats. I'm not kidding type feline vet and there are several here within the city and around.
