How to Save Money at Riverside Animal Hospital North

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My first time going to this vet hospital. Was desperately attempting to find a vet office that's open on Sunday's not far from me since MOST vets are closed on Sunday's. Thankfully they were open. However, I heard from the receptionist that starting November they too will be closed on Sunday's. They, from the receptionist to the vet tech, nurse and doctor on duty today...were so pleasant, kind and patient. The plus part for me is that they take Care Credit so that I can pay off the bill in increments before the expiration date. Very cute Lobby with all the beautiful portraits of furbabies, a dispenser for dog treats and one for human treats. It was a welcoming environment. A place I would return to if and when I cannot get to my beloveds Primary vet in NJ.

Sometime before 7PM today, this business illegally placed bagged trash on the sidewalk. Under NYC law, businesses must place trash in secure, lidded containers or wait until after 8PM to put trash out. This recurrent problem persists despite polite requests from a group of us neighbors concerned about the rat problem on the block. We will now seek enforcement action from DSNY (escalating fines up to $300 per violation).

Many thanks to Dr. Sang Seop Lee. My cat’s ears were swelling and flushing with itching. I thought it’s because of ear infection but Dr. Lee corrected me and pointed out it is because of allergy. My solution such as applying iodine doesn’t really solve the problem. He also noticed my cat’s eyes were red for the same reason. With his treatments, my cat got much better after two days. Dr. Lee was very gentle and my cat likes him a lot. The lady assistant (sorry I don’t know her name) was also super clear and helpful. It is hard to find a parking spot nearby but my experience in the hospital is satisfying.

0/5 if I could. I am not happy with my experience at all. I brought my cat in to get an exam for a dental cleaning. The vet said that it was his top teeth that had tarter build up, not too much on the bottom and there should be no need for extractions. They ran tests and with the discount everything came out to $600. We got the test results back the following Monday and it showed my cat having an abnormal result for his heart. The vet called to give the news and recommended an Echo. I told him that I needed to discuss with my boyfriend for best course of treatment and that I would call back with additional questions. We called a few hours before they closed and got their voicemail and left a message asking to call us back. Never got a call. Called Wednesday and was told the vet was busy (totally understandable) and if we would be okay with another vet talking to us about the test results. I said that was not a problem at all, I just needed to get more clarification on the results. The front desk woman told us that they would call that day, or Thursday at the absolute latest. Never received a call. I wrote an email with a few questions. I was trying to be respectful of their time because of how busy they were so there was no need for a call back. I got an email saying the vet was out of town and would call me on Saturday to go over the questions that I sent in. What a surprise that I did not receive a call Saturday or Sunday. I followed up with an email on Monday and did not get a response so I decided I would just go ahead with the Echo to be on the safe side. When I spoke to the person at the front desk he was extremely rude. “ I can tell you the reason the vet didn’t call you back today is because um he’s busy” it’s not what he said but it was the tone in which he said it. I told him I completely understand and respect the vets time but I had been told twice that he would call and never did. I told him I wanted to schedule the echo and he informed me they have to call someone in and they only do it when there are 3 animals needing and he could not realistically tell me when my cat would be able to get it done since he was the only one in need. I don’t know why the vet would recommend a course of treatment if they aren’t able to do it in a timely manner. The front desk guy then informed me that the vet would be giving me a call back and again, nothing. I did get an email from another vet at the practice recommending the echo which was not helpful because they aren’t even able to do it. Your ONLY job is to treat critters like they were your own and make sure they are getting the best care that is humanly possible to receive. It is so disappointing that as a business and as a veterinarian first that I wasn’t treated with basic respect and decency. Instead I felt like I was an annoyance for following up and trying to treat my cat. I ended up taking him to another practice that immediately treated him as if he was family. They listened to my concerns and acknowledged time concerns as well. They also did a re-examination of the mouth more thoroughly and found that the root of the problem is actually his bottom teeth not his top. He has an ulcer in his mouth, how do you miss that? I can go on and on but do yourself a favor and save yourself a headache, do not come here. I was quoted $1300-$3000 for the dental procedure and almost $1000 for the echo where at the new vet the max it would be is $1700. I was also able to get him in for an echo next week and schedule the dental procedure 3 days later. All I’m saying if they wanted to treat your animals they would.
