How to Save Money at Columbus Circle Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Walsh is the best. She is very experienced and knowledgeable and fairly priced. No other vet I’ve seen has been able to properly help my elderly cat. My cat also tends to be very grumpy with vets, but Dr. Walsh’s calm demeanor puts her at ease. Highly recommend!!

Dr Walsh is the best most compassionate vet I had ever met

While sitting waiting on medication for the dog Max, Dr. Walsh look me straight in my face and said "keep your mask up because I don't want to get COVID". Mind you 3 other clients came into the clinic after me without wearing any mask and nothing was said to either of them about not wearing mask. I can only think its because of the color of their skin. Racism is all over.

We are moving to Brooklyn and couldn't be more excited about our new place. The most difficult part of this move is that we will no longer have Dr. Walsh and her amazing team taking care of our girl Lady. This picture was from today Lady's last visit for a check up and vaccinations. They have always been so kind, thorough, and attentive! When we brought Lady to them 2 years ago, she had uncontrollable allergies which resulted in multiple paw infection. Her paws were swollen and bleeding. Through calculated trial and error, Dr. Walsh was able to properly treat and manage her allergies. Before doing anything, Dr. Walsh helps me understand what needs to be done, how it will be done, and different options if applicable. I never felt more confident that Lady was in good hands. Our dog is easy going and gets along with everyone but you can tell she is comfortable with the team at Columbus Circle. They even coined a new nickname for her! Big Lady! When calling I'd say, "Hi, this is big Lady's mom calling for ____". The response was always "Awe! Yes! Big Lady! How can we help?" I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Walsh and her team! She is one of the most highly educated, experienced, and specialized veterinarians in New York. Thank you so much for taking such good care of our baby!

I really urge you not to listen to the negative reviews of a few people. Dr. Walsh is really wonderful. She is upfront, informative, and truly listens. I called her office at 1230 on a Friday to get an appointment for my golden retriever and they squeezed me right in at 2! I had just moved to the city about 2 weeks prior and didn’t have a vet in the area. My golden puppy started limping out of no where and I was really concerned. Anyways, I bring her in at 2, Dr. Walsh spent over an hour sitting with me, getting her history and listening to her problem. I never once felt rushed, she did a full exam on my dog, well over 15 minutes ranging her legs to check for pain. She sent me home with doggy Advil and strict precautions to rest my dog. She never pushed unnecessary tests or imaging on me and was truly looking out for my and my dogs best interests. I was so happy with my experience I came home to write this review first thing. Go see Dr. Walsh if your furry one needs a little extra TLC, you won’t be sorry!
