How to Save Money at Animal Clinic of Bay Ridge

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Do call ahead to confirm their hours before going in. Luckily I went early enough on a Wednesday, 11am was the cut off for the day. No appointments - walk-in only and then sign in. Exam routine/consultation is $25. Affordable treatment prices for your pets. This will be my go to clinic for my cats.

After using this clinic in various occasions, my last experience was horrible. Went there to euthanize my outdoor cat at 9:30 and was kept at the waiting room for over three hours. This is cruel to me since it is an agonizing decision. A priority or appointment should be given to people that are euthanizing their pets. Most people will agree to that...When called, I was kept in the back room for 15 minutes, that gave me an opportunity to see how dirty and outdated the place looked. The base of the examination table was rusted and filthy, the medicine cabinets were disorganized and gave the impression that half of those medicines were expired. The X-ray machine looked like it was made in the 1940's. The view of the bathroom which unfortunately had to used, was more of the ones that you see at gas stations. The staff was having lunch and engaged in small talk that you don't want to hear close to me. When the vet N. Ibrahim came in, I explained that last time this cat escaped from the cage and most likely he will do the same. Apparently, she didn't listen and the tech proceeded to open the cage without taking precautions. The cat ran across the room into another room. Needless to say, I was upset. The vet asked me what can we learn...to which I replied that history should had been written in the medical record card and gloves should had been used to get the cat out of the cage. It's not my role to tell them how to do their job. Maybe if they listen and ask questions, things would have been different. There was no dignity in euthanizing my cat and I am writing this review to have someone avoid this horrible experience.

I love this place. Everyone that works there are so nice and straightforward. It isn't fancy but the care and service are excellent. They are a real service to the lower income community and they are 1/3 of the cost EVERYONE else around. Again, they are all so nice and considerate. Nook and Wiley are happy healthy 4 months old crazies thank YOU! 💪😻😻🙏

I brought my cat obi here twice , and this place is great. It is the most inexpensive vet I’ve been to but the doctor knows what she’s talking about and the team treats the animals very well. Brought my cat in on Monday morning , waited about an hour and was seen. Obi feels much better and his cough is all taken care of. Thank you to the team at the animal clinic for providing high quality affordable care

Today I took Ashley to Animal Clinic of Bay Ridge, I called ahead and I was told that I didn't need to make an appointment, that I could just walk in before 4 pm. I got there around 3:00 pm waited around 2 hours because there was a long waiting list, that was the only down part, around 5 pm Ashley was seen by a very kind Vet, her name is Dr. Ninette Ibrahim and she has a great team working with her. Ashley was diagnosed with skin allergy and was given 3 shots, the service was very attentive and excellent, the consultation was 25 and for the e shots Ashley received totaled $178 dollars. I highly recomend this place.
