How to Save Money at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital of Brooklyn

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Sept 2023: Updating my original review just to say that three years in, I’m still obsessed with this veterinary practice! We’ve worked with several vets over the course of that time, but each one is knowledgeable, thorough, friendly and deeply cares about my pet. They’re taking new clients again, so jump at the chance! I cannot speak highly enough of Dr Morgan and her entire team at All Creatures! Sadly, I don’t think they’re taking on new clients, but when they do, I would highly recommend them! They’ve treated my exotic shorthair cat since I got him two years ago. During that time, he has received top notch care—Dr Morgan and her staff take their time to thoroughly address all of my concerns. They squeeze him in when he has an urgent health need, and always offer reliable/honest recommendations about which treatment option to prefer. I feel so lucky that my little guy gets to go here! Even more so to have such a great vet within blocks of my apartment. 🤗

The staff and doctors at All Creatures have been such an important support system to our family since we first joined their practice many years ago. They are not only good at what they do but they genuinely care about their pet clients. They are compassionate, knowledgeable and honest. We originally went to their office for the holistic additional approach they offer to their clients (we have two dachshunds who have had neck and back issues) and they offer those cutting edge options like laser therapy and acupuncture. But we ended up transferring 100% of our vet needs to them after we saw the major different in their general care, meaning: extremely thorough exams and appointments that didn’t have you pushed out the door in 5 minutes like our previous clinic. These were 30-60 min exams that answers all our questions and concerns. That said, their prices are fair. Remember! You get what you pay for. I truly believe they have helped our two old guys live as long and as well as they have (16 and 20!). Thank you Britney, Drew, Dr. O, Dr. Nunemacher, Dr. Morgan and all of the staff there for their wonderful care over the years.

I’ve been taking my cat here only for the last seven years. He is a senior, so his care and wellness are important to us. The staff always makes us feel at ease. Dr Morgan and Dr Onderdonk, who is newer to the clinic, answer all of our questions with patience, and make us feel like family. They go above and beyond for their clients. Their prices are fair, and we always get seen in a timely manner. They aren’t taking new clients at the moment, so we feel lucky to have had them look after our beloved.

It’s hard to imagine a better, more attentive, caring, and thorough vet. We’ve been using All Creatures for nearly a decade. Dr. Morgan has always been willing to answer questions, even via email, and stays on top of new research and treatments (our dog has collapsing trachea, so this is very important to us). The staff is fantastic. You can tell they all care very much about each animal and have always been polite and friendly. We moved about 30 min away by car but I make the trip to All Creatures for our dog’s health care.

I would definitely recommend All Creatures Vet to any pet owner. The entire front desk staff (Drew, Britanny…) and vets and vet techs are all super friendly and accommodating. Our dog Truffle was never a fan of going to the vet but they always made sure she was comfortable. Dr. Onderdonk tried everything possible to help with her arthritis (acupuncture, laser, different meds) and I think Truffle even started liking her. Thankfully, Dr Morgan decided to take an X-ray when we brought her in right after New Year’s for what seemed to be a seizure - it turned out to be bloat - they made sure to find a hospital that would take us asap and start surgery (pet insurance has paid off big time over the years). Sadly, we had to say good bye to our dog, but even this process was as “pleasant” as it can be I’d say. We will come back once we are ready for another dog!
