How to Save Money at ASPCA Community Veterinary Clinic - By Appointment Only

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Brought my precious boy Ouken here for vaccines. Everything went smoothly. I was serviced quickly and offered Flea and Tick control which I will always say yes to (-: no complaints. My advice is to show up ON TIME, they will reschedule you.

When I brought my puppy in I was a little discouraged because although he was in pain they said they couldn't see him for the next 2 weeks. The receptionist handed me a paper with alternative places that could see him as an emergency. I decided to call the clinics while there, and before the phone could even ring 3 good times, the receptionist stood up and said she just had a cancellation and that she could put me in for 1pm that day. 🙌🏿. The entire staff was AMAZING! I RATE THEM 10/10. They tried to make both me and my puppy feel comfortable.

I am very impressed how the front desk is very professional. They’re nice and respectful. As soon as I walked in they said hi and didn’t ignore me at all. They helped me with registration of my cat and moved me to billing department so they can discuss my situation and tell me what’s next. Also Billing department was so nice especially Ashley she was so helpful and attentive with my situation. Overall experience was amazing. Nurses and doctors are so careful and friendly with yoshi! Thanks to you guys yoshi is still here with us. I am beyond grateful!

I'm physically ~mentally ~emotionally exhausted right now, still... First off I discovered that my cats nipple was inflamed Tuesday evening. When I went to inspect it puss and blood came pouring out. I called the ASPCA immediately but it was after they were already closed. I was able to leave a message. So the next day at 8 am when they opened I called. I was told via recorded message that there were 30 people ahead of me. After 10 minutes the message then stated that there were 41 people ahead of me. From that time the amount of people ahead of me started going down. After 1 hour and 17 minutes they answered the phone. Nobody said anything. So I said " hello hello. Is anyone there. I can't hear you. Is anyone there. Exactly 25 seconds later they hung up. Of course I called back and I got it recording that the appointments were filled for the day. So yesterday ~Thursday ~ I called again and thankfully got through and got an appointment for 1:30. I took my cat in and the Dr. said that she has cancer throughout and it's the kind that goes into the blood. Here's where it gets more stressful. I was prepared to let her go. The Dr stated that she was uncomfortable. Now there was nothing that could be done for her except to give her medication that would act as a slight sedative to ease her discomfort. And she gave me wipes to clean the infected area... The Dr, who was very nice by the way, then stated~ "well she is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom, I don't see why you shouldn't take her home." I was thrown for a loop at this point. The Dr also said "why don't you pick a date to have her put down. Like give it a week." So now I have my cat home with me and I get to watch her deteriorate until I pick a date to bring her back to put her down... I have no other comment about this right now. This was my experience... Take it as you want...I've been to the ASPCA a few times and regardless of the results I've never had a bad experience. Everyone was always very nice and everything had always been fully explained to me. I do not want to put out anything negative, but again, this threw me off...

The Vets were very professional, they give the owner a brief n good explanation of the treatment needed. It's very convenient when you need fast n good treatment for your pet, n it's some what a little less then walking into a vet clinic. You can also pick up at the store anything else you need for your pet. I was very pleased.
