How to Save Money at Baring Blvd. Veterinary Hospital Wellness Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our cat got bit by another cat and we needed to see the vet she was Limping and had an infection . Even though it took a while they still saw us in a reasonable amount of time and fixed our little girl up. She's getting much better and they were very nice I would recommend this place. To anyone especially if you need a quick and easy place to take your animal and the other places are closed on the weekend. Thank you so much😻

Dog was hit by a car, we asked to not let him suffer, but if he can make it, money is not a problem. Long story short after multiple X-rays, the vets missing a punctured lung, and 6days of suffering, our dog didn’t make it. They let him suffer for capital gain. So disturbing.

So this is the second time I took my puppy to this veterinarian hospital and had the front office staff dismiss my importance. I had called on Monday to ask Dr. Parks a question about my cat's asthma medicine. They told me she was not going to be there until Wednesday, so they would give her a message when she returns. Completely dismissing the fact that it could be a serious matter. Dr. Parks called me on Thursday mid morning about my cat. I let her know that my puppy was not eating and had diarrhea. She asked the urgent care doctor if she could see Chewie for me that day. Dr. Hikes said she would see him but it had to be before 2:30. I left work and was at the vet with Chewie by 2:15. This is where it gets bad. Out of 5 girls at the front entrance one finally acknowledged Chewie and I standing there. She very rudely told me that urgent care ended at 2:00. I let her know that Dr. Parks had set up an appointment with the urgent care doctor to see Chewie if I got there before 2:30 since it was so late already by the time I spoke with Dr. Parks. She told me that she did not have a note from anyone so as far as she knew there was no appointment. I let her know that I had spoke with Dr. Parks and she spoke with Dr. Hikes to get an appointment. She told me again about not having any notes. I said you know I had to leave work and come home to pick up Chewie and go there, so could she please go check with the urgent care doctor and ask her. She came back with no apology and told me that the doctor would see Chewie. The doctor's assistant "Ashley" came out and greeted us and asked me to come over and weigh Chewie. I had never done that before and she kind of made fun of me when I didn't do it correctly. Not a big deal. We went to the exam room and she came in and seemed nice enough. She looked at Chewie and took his temperature. Then she left and the urgent care doctor came in to examine Chewie and ask and answer questions. She told me 2 separate costs for services. I chose to not have the labs or x-rays done at the time and just try to give him the medicine and different food. That was all fine. Ashley came back into the room and took Chewie to give him a shot to try to get him to get his appetite back. She came back with the medicine and the bill for services. She then stated that I could pay my bill with her and check out right in the exam room. She asked for 2 forms of ID and my credit card and then she left to go process the card. When she came back into the room I asked her if she would go over the instructions on how to administer the medicine, etc. She stated the directions were on the box and that she was missing her lunch break and would like to go eat before her lunch ended. So I said go go have lunch. Thank you so much. I went home and found that the directions were not all clear about dosages, etc. Please tell me that they will do something about the way they are treating patient's parents at the clinic. It did not use to be like that there. There are just some bad seeds that need to be weeded out. I will never go there again thanks to Mattie and Ashley.

The staff is great! The Laser therapy has improved my 12 year old dogs mobility and reduced the amount of pain meds.
