How to Save Money at Animal Care Center of Pahrump

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We brought our cat Carl here because he had blood in his urine. Other than that, he didn't act like he was sick. The assistant that took our information did not accurately document the information we gave her. We left our cat Carl there for several hours while we waited for a call from the vet (Dr. Wallace). He finally called and stated what would have to be done, but told us that the problem would recur. He had already told us that Carl would require a special diet. During the call, the vet said that putting Carl on the diet would be a problem because we have 9 other cats. We had already figured out how we would accomplish that. The vet pretty much pushed us towards euthanasia. A couple of days later, I returned to pick up our pet carrier and the medical documents. This vet had judged us based on the fact that we had ten cats. He mentioned this in the middle of what was the "subjective" section of the report: NOTE: They have 9 other cats! This vet did not document our telephone conversation accurately or completely. Had he taken the time to listen, we might still have Carl. This vet did not consider the fact that even though we had ten cats, I noticed that Carl had a problem and brought him right in. He judged us based on how many cats we have. It is apparent in what he wrote in the report. I'd like to note that most of our cats are rescues. One of them we've had since he was a kitten. He is almost 20 years old. I will not take any of our cats there again.

This was a routine shot appointment for our dog. We arrived on time we were greeted very nicely, checked in quickly, only waited five minutes for the assistant to take us back to the room. Less than five minutes for the vet tech to arrive in the room confirm what was needed that day & verify we had no other concerns. She did a cursory check of our dog, all the while being super affectionate to our dog, and very friendly with us. Once, again, less than five minutes later, the actual veterinarian arrived in the room again confirmed what was needed for the day. Did another cursory check on our dog gave her the shots confirmed that we had no other concerns and we were on our way out. Check out, was as easy as check in and I feel prices are fair and reasonable.

They were able to see my favorite fur nephew Kush, a 74lb American Bully in the ER as a walk in. He was in really bad shape! He wasn't eating, sleeping or able to go out and use the restroom! He couldn't really walk he was in soo much pain he couldn't even lay or really sit without crying in severe pain, his front legs were giving out on him.. The poor baby would go face first when they did, if, I couldn't catch him first! They explained to me that it was a Severe pinched nerve an showed me where it was. They gave him meds an said 2 to 3 weeks bed rest, after 4 days he was able to use the restroom, some what and had started to eat a little , but the pain was still intense for him. I called them back an with further instruction they increased his nerve Blocker which did wonders for him! We are now on week 2 of 3 an he is almost back to his old ornery self!! It's so hard to keep an active dog on bedrest.. Especially when he couldn't go rest in the kennel because it caused him more pain... The only alternative if he didn't heal on his own was Invasive Surgery!!! I just want to say Thank you to the whole team, You are All Awesome an so understanding and Compassionate about our fur babies!!!! We are so Greatful! ❤❤❤
