How to Save Money at South Buffalo Springs Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great experience every time! We came in, ended up needing surgery for my pup and the vet was great. She met and exceeded expectations and we understood every process and follow up necessary. They took great care of my pup and I will always go back here as I have for years!

I will pursue every legal avenue to ensure Dr. Shaun Caudle never treats another animal. His lack of effort and carelessness led to my dog Odin, a 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Chow Chow, being put down last night. Dr. Caudle misdiagnosed him with kennel cough and prescribed a powerful steroid instead of a cough suppressant. The test for kennel cough came back negative, but only after six days instead of the promised 3-4. During that time, Odin was unnecessarily on the steroid, despite showing side effects that Dr. Caudle dismissed as normal. When the test came back negative, my pregnant wife called three times but received no response until two days later. When they finally called back, we were admonished for even considering taking him off the steroid due to the risk of withdrawal. The side effects worsened, and another doctor reduced the dosage, but we still couldn’t reach Dr. Caudle. That day, Odin had multiple seizures. He was rushed to South Buffalo Animal Hospital, but despite their efforts, he didn’t recover. Odin was a healthy, happy dog, and his unnecessary death has devastated us. My wife, who is five months pregnant and high risk, lost her constant companion, and I had to manage her grief while protecting her and our unborn child from further stress. Dr. Caudle’s reckless prescribing, lack of communication, and disregard for clear warning signs killed my dog, and I will make sure he’s held accountable. I swear on everything I hold sacred, I will spend the rest of my life ensuring this man never practices as a veterinarian again. This isn’t about money—it’s about principle. His carelessness cost my family dearly, and I refuse to let him harm anyone else the way he hurt us.

Dr. Caudle and his team were outstanding. Very compassionate, knowledgeable and great communication along the way with our two kitties, Pippin & Merry.

Amazing staff. I have had dogs all my life but never seen such a caring and amazing staff before. I had to euthanize my dog this morning and everyone was so kind and helpful and thoughtful I couldn’t have asked for a greater support system during this process. My only regret is not having found them before but when I get another pet I will without a doubt bring him here. Thank you !!! You all are amazing 💕💕💕

Phone call was answered immediately, I was informed of how many callers were ahead of me and waited a very short time. The information the receptionist gave me about wait times for walk-ins was accurate . I went in and waited less than 15 minutes to see a vet. Dr. Caudle was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and calm. He answered any questions I had clearly. He made a short term plan to address immediate gut issues with my frenchie and began discussing a long term plan to monitor his eating habits and behaviors. I appreciate how thorough he was without over selling or suggesting any unnecessary treatments. The vet assistant was polite and pleasant to speak with. One of the best vet visits I’ve had in Las Vegas. Thank you
