How to Save Money at A Cat Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Professional, clean, organized, empathetic. After an awful experience with another veterinarian (you can find the review on my page!) I walked into A Cat Hospital sobbing with my 4-month-old kitten. The diagnosis the other vet gave me was crushing - and turns out wrong! Both Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Anderson handled my kitten with care and were empathetic when it came to educating me. They consistently followed up as they promised and were kind, articulate and trustworthy. They did not rush me through my appointment and took care in answering all my questions despite me being very emotional. They even allowed me to stat order the results for a small fee. They performed all the tests needed on my kitten and could definitively conclude he was healthy. I am so grateful for their care. Following my experience, I immediately asked for Dr. Anderson (Mr.) to be assigned my kittens primary veterinarian. I will recommend this business and veterinarian every chance I get. Thank you so much!

This was the most thoroughly explained vet visit I’ve ever had. Brought my fur baby in because she was feeling under the weather and these guys got her right back to normal (if not better) in a day but also explained my options, costs, and most importantly results better than any vet I’ve ever had. Like REALLY took the time to explain her blood/urine results to ensure I understood and it wasnt even a very serious situation. THIS is the kind of care we look for when bringing in our pets. 10/10 and will be back again. Matilda says thank you!

I want to sincerely thank everyone at A Cat Hospital for being so professional, knowledgeable and very, very caring. From the initial visit to the follow up appointment, our experience was nothing but amazing. Dr. Godinez was very thoughtful and careful the way she approached the treatment for our 17 year old cat, she made us feel very comfortable and confident in doing the procedure. The cat is very happy!

A CAT HOSPITAL on Green Valley Pkwy. IS A RIP OFF! Don't waste your time or your money going to this place! They are only interested in making money and not helping your pet. Our kitty was having trouble breathing and lots of mucus coming from his nose. I made an appointment with Dr. Andy Anderson but he never showed. So much for Tuskegee grads. Instead, his wife Brittany came in and said he was busy. I asked for a script for some expectorant to get rid of the mucus in my cats nose and mouth. She never even examined our cat. Instead, she handed me an estimate for close to $700 for tests and X-rays. She also indicated that we only had 24 hours or something bad would happen to our cat! We paid $76 for an exam that never happened. No wonder they had no patients! That was in June, over 3 months ago. We gave our kitty mucus medicine and other medicines from Walmart... Guanfacine, 20mg, with Lysine, vitamins, protein in his mouth with a syringe. We helped him drink water and eat food. As of October 15, he is eating dry food and drinking water on his own. We did find another vet that gave him a shot of Convenia which seemed to help. Vets for the most part, take advantange of your love for your pet and are in it for the money. It is very hard to find a good one. If you use Google for research, you can find the solutions for helping your sick baby get better.

I’ve been taking my gorgeous tuxedo boy to this business for many years for a lion shave in June. At first, I was happy until I wasn’t! This business has had its day. Unfortunately, the treatment of my kitty has been going downhill, and I will no longer subject my precious boy to this trauma anymore. First, their lion shave ranges from $450-$850. When I picked up my kitty, he was wet. He hadn’t been bathed. There was poop in his carrier, and the tech admitted she’s not a groomer!! Again, this business has really gone downhill!! But not their prices!! He was also extremely traumatized and not fully recovered from anesthesia. Needless to say. NEVER AGAIN!!
