How to Save Money at Longevity Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've been taking some of my dogs to Dr. B for many years. He's been wonderful! Were it not for him, one of my fur babies would not be alive. She had mass cell carcinoma and it was through his excellent care and holistic treatment that she has been cancer free for 3 years. His staff is very friendly and helpful and his new facility is state of the art. He has extended his services beyond any veterinary clinic in the area. And because he's holistic and very knowledgeable, I highly recommend him to anyone who truly loves their pets and wants only the very best care.

My French bulldog has been a patient of Dr. Satisch for several years now. She is the most compassionate, talented, well-versed, holistic vet that I have ever worked with. The entire staff at the center is friendly, helpful, and treats us very well. I would recommend this practice for anyone who wants to go above and beyond and outside of the traditional Western medicine routes to really care for their animals.

The staff and doctors here are great, caring, knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about their work. I had to put down my little girl this summer and they could not have been more compassionate. I just got a puppy and took her in for her first visit this past week and they were equally as excited to help me care for my new little love in the new beautiful facility.

I started bringing my dogs here almost 4 years ago and since day one knew that I've found the best care possible that also adheres to my own philosophy on healthcare. EVERYONE here at this practice is wonderful, they truly care for the welfare of the pets they see, whether you are visiting for the first time or a returning customer of many years. Throughout the years my dogs have been seen by each of the doctors on separate occasions and can say that they are all dedicated and thorough and can provide solutions and remedies to address your pets' needs. The practice is well-managed, organized, efficient and extremely professional - which makes a huge difference because it allows me to focus on improving the health of my fur-balls!

I had moved to Delaware and came back to visit my dad this weekend. My rescue dog which is a year and three months old kept on having accidents and I thought she had a urinary track infection so I brought her to the vet. They stated they would have to go into her belly with a needle to extract the urine, me not knowing anything about animals or veterinary skills I just sat there and said OK. They took her away in about half hour later they brought her back and she was all dopey, they said all we had to sedate her. Well, first of all, if you had to sedate her, you should’ve asked me first because I would’ve said no. The next day which was Sunday my dog still has not eaten, still walking around like she’s lethargic, and she also threw up. They found out that she does not have a urinary track infection but they gave me medicine for her continuity not very happy specially when they said this was $450 for what they did. I hate to say this I should’ve waited until I went back to Delaware to see her vet, but I did not want to keep her in distress any longer than necessary. They made a follow up appointment for August which I am canceling.
