How to Save Money at People For Animals Inc

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought in my dog in for a spaying. Great service! My dog came back looking well post-op (not dirty etc). The instructions were pretty clear on what to do if you can read and have internet access to sign up for an appointment. They also gave clear instructions on what to do post-op and opened the floor to questions. My dog wasn’t afraid or in too much pain when I picked her up. They managed her pain well. The price was great for surgery, a cone, and medications. It’s been 10 days post-op and she’s doing well! No infections or irritation.

We had our two female dogs spayed here about a week ago. We have been here before so we knew what to expect. This place is top notch. People think "clinic" and they think "bad", but don't do that. This is what they do so they know what they are doing. Our girls have not been in any pain, have not had any complications and have no shown any outward signs that anything is wrong. It's everything we can do to keep them calm for the next few days. We had another dog spayed by our vet yeras ago and the dog was in pain for three days and had one heck of a recovery with a seeping wound, etc. Take your dogs here, you won't regret it. We will be back. Top notch care by top notch staff. The line at the door each morning speaks for itself.

This is my second visit to PFA. For what it is, affordable spay and neuter services, they do a great job. Can't beat it in the area. They do have other services I have not tried. Staff is genuinely concerned for your pets health. But this isn't like visiting your local veterinarian. You don't get to meet the doc. If that's what you are looking for, go elsewhere. A personal referral is what turned us on to the place. I have one more spay to go and will be back. You wait your turn in the parking lot where they have a patient que through their web app where you wait outside till you are texted. Be sure to arrive 30 minutes ahead of time. Make sure you sign in when you get there as it's easy to forget. They require masks. And if driving North on Rt 130, GPS is not accurate where flipping a U-turn is a challenge when there's traffic. Best to access South on RT 130 and watch for street as its easy to miss.

They helped me let go of my sweet little " pretty girl", with love, patience and complete understanding of my feelings. I am so thankful this office is there . I have reached out to them on several occasions in years past. They have always shown compassion and empathy as I was called upon to make the worse decision any pet owner can make. They deserve every penny of donations they receive. Call them to see what is needed that week..as this is an ongoing process of help that they extend to the local area..food or towels, blankets ..anything that they may need for the comfort of a little dying soul. God bless all of those people who show up for their jobs...everyday. They supply unconditional support and love to 4 legged and 2 legged souls alike. I thank all of them.

Got my pup spayed here on 5/16/24. You can't beat it for the price and they did a fine job. I'd recommend getting there as early as possible (6:30am) to get a spot because before you know it there will be 30 people waiting and it goes by whoever checks in first. Luckily I was second and only waiting about a half hour. She healed up nicely and it was overall a good experience.
