How to Save Money at Millburn Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Deposited $40 for the appointment visit… never had such thing at other vets. For the 15 minutes initial consultation for my 8 months pup , they said she is health , I had pay$ 90+. Vet is very young. You have to extremely rich to go to this place . They Charge over $1500 for spay and teeth extraction. $1300 for your dog full dentist clean every year . It located at shorthill area. I understand it is not for me. Found better place and better price somewhere else.

One person can make a big difference. It's not often that we find someone who does. But Dr. Turowsky, my vet at Millburn, is someone who goes so far beyond what is even expected. I always knew this from the time my dogs were puppies. At age one, my black lab ate my glass lenses and Dr. Turowsky remained on the phone line with me for over an hour. But even more important was this past winter. My black lab got a super bad gastrointestinal problem and was pretty much on his deathbed. I was in Florida staying at a hotel for a month as my daughter was getting married. I was running from animal hospitals to emergency rooms incurring thousands of dollars in charges. I missed countless nights of sleep as my dog had to be rushed outside before diarrhea flowed like a river from him. And through it, all were phone calls from Dr. Turowsky checking in on me and talking me through horrific times. Not once, not twice, but countless times. He was my backbone. I will NEVER forget what his phone calls meant to me. EVERYONE with a dog is susceptible to the unexpected. But to have someone who really cares goes beyond the call of duty. Thank you, Dr. Turowsky . I couldn't have handled this alone. Your heart is on your sleeve. You are very special and I'll never forget how much your advice meant to me. THANK YOU from my heart and from Boomers!

Very rude. I got picked up in the parking lot and a employee yelled out we don’t cut through! “Bad boy” as if my husband was the pet she had just serviced. If you can’t treat humans with respect I certainly don’t trust that you would respect and care for the animals we love.

They are okay, the nurses are nice but every time I’ve come here I’ve had a different vet of different quality. Some are better than others and some are more thorough than others. In particular I was not a fan of this elderly seemingly Indian female vet who was kind of rough with my kitten, but the other younger vets that saw him were quite nice. I’m still looking for a really good north jersey vet so if anyone wants to let me know feel free to message me on insta @stephanieperricho thank you so much

This place is unorganized. Seems like the front desk is understaffed, as they always seem flustered. Vets work a short schedule so making an appointment to suit the customer is damn near impossible and they don't even try. Once you get an appointment, the vet doesn't seem to know that much, or that is what they want you to believe so they can run test and overcharge and still not give a proper solution. Any questions you may have, they're always suggesting that you buy their product, when you decline it's like they don't have any other suggestions. I just feel like the place is being run by children. Also I've gone 3 times and have never seen them wipe the table down and there's always debris left from other animals on examining table, also my pet ate something off of their floor as well. I just feel like there are better places, that one seems to be run by children.
