How to Save Money at UrgentVet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to make a trip some weeks back to UrgentVet for my cat. They were pretty thorough finding the problem immediately and very professional in their approach. They were super friendly and the facility was really clean. They even provide snacks in the front for free while you wait. Our weight was pretty long that day. however she did warn us that they were at capacity. I appreciated their expertise and professionalism when treating my little friend.

Staff was great and I could tell they treated my little Phoebe really well while she was getting ready for anesthesia and recovering. She was never by herself and really liked the vet tech. She usually hates vets and I expected it to be 10x worst since she was hurt. Everything about the visit was great. I was worried that they’d be very expensive, but everything seemed in line with what things cost now a days! I didn’t feel like they really even charged any more than my regular vet would have and they did a lot of work!

My dog was acting strange and it progressively got worse throughout the day. Staring at the wall, lethargic, didn’t wag or want to play then eventually just layed down on the deck with shallow breathing and not blinking. I thought she was dying. This was Friday by 5pm. Most vets would be closed and we are new to the area. I searched for an emergency vet and how close they were. I saw the ad for this clinic and knew I needed to find them. When we arrived the facility was in a great location. Close spaces to the clinic to park and get inside right away. In the lobby they had an easy to use tablet to register. It was very clean and there were snacks in case you had to wait a while. Nice touch! I love this hospitality touch! Someone came out before I finished registration and greeted us and he kneeled down and met My dog and was asking a little about what’s up. He invited me to have a seat and he came back a few minutes later to take us back to the examining room. He was very kind and listened and watched her. She got right up on the scale and was comfortable there. He left to get tools for the vitals exam and we had a few minutes to listen to the calming music playing and settle in. He came back, took her vitals and talked through what he was doing out loud, “okay I’m going to listen you your heartbeat…that sounds good”. She earned his trust quickly. After that the Dr came in and she was ready for anything. She sat in the floor and was very loving and compassionate and truly wanted to find out what was wrong. She poked and prodded, checking her joints and guts and muscles to see if she was hurt any where. After that loved on her and we talked about looking for clues as to what may be wrong. X-rays, tests, etc. all the types of options we had. She wrote out an estimate and sent it in with the vet tech. He and I looked at the whole estimate, and then the things I couldn’t pronounce he helped me understand. No one talked down to me or gave me a hard time because I couldn’t afford to do the whole list. He went back to the Dr and she whittled it down to the basics to try first. Iv and some pills. We agreed on treatment and it didn’t take long. The best part was if we tried this and it got worse of she needed to come back the next day, no charge, we just pick up where we left off. It was easy to check out and pay right there in the exam room and we were on our way. By the 20 minute drive home she was already more alert and when we got home she was showing signs of life back like wagging her tail and watching me eager to please like usual. I would 💯 percent recommend this company to anyone in need of a trusting place to help in a time when you need it most. I will definitely be back and recommend to anyone with a pet! Thank you!

So thankful for UrgentVet! Like most emergencies, it was at the worst possible time. I called them 2 hours before they closed, talked with Brayon, he came right back on the line saying “come on”. Them knowing that I had an almost 1 hour ride, and once we got there, he had to be sedated, surgery performed, and get him ready to leave. They stayed open late, never rushed us, and were just the best people you would ever want taking care of your 4 legged family member. I would / will recommend them to anyone I come across. Thank you Dr. Guinevere Nease for everything!!

I called UrgentVet in a panic thinking my dog was having a severe allergic reaction. They gave me suggestions over the phone to make it easier when I finally arrived. Once I arrived they made it easy to check in and wait (with refreshments since I skipped dinner to come so that was fantastic)! Once in the room the vet tech was very attentive and took great care with my dog. The doctor came in and took great and extensive care with my dog as well. I felt very comfortable with the treatment plan and felt confident in the doctor as well. Her attention to detail in all my concerns made me feel very comfortable. I could tell my dog felt comfortable with them as well. I would never hesitate to come here in case of emergency, however I hope we don’t need to!
