How to Save Money at Spring Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So my family and I moved from Kinston to Goldsboro. I have two dogs that I wanted to be switched over to thier care. The first day I stopped by the receptionist seemed pissy. No eye contact. Now the vet tech and vet were polite. Nice. I really respect the fact that the doctor wanted to work with my dog. Wanted to make him feel comfortable. Did not recommend giving the animals what he believes is toxic medication. But what I do not have respect for is being given the run around. I have been told numerous things by thier staff. Been told they would contact my prior vet office in Kinston to request vet records. Been told that once they recieve them I will be authorized to purchased prescribed medications and collars to prevent fleas and parasites. Then I'm told that the dogs need a heartworm test, or proof, in order to recieve the medications. Even though one of my dogs cannot be examined months from now. And my other dog is not due for an exam until december. My dogs have been on Trifexis month by month. Never had heartworm or fleas. What's the point of sending over the vaccination records? And lastly I asked the vet tech if the proof of Trifexis would be enough to give me authorization for to purchase the collars and Heartguard. She tells me "I think it should be". So you are ok with me driving 22 minutes away with an anxiety dog just to be turned away because you failed to communicate with me? Lol. The staff there tells you several different things. No direct answer. Almost as if they are afraid to talk to the vet for an answer. So...as much as I respect the vet and his style. I do not respect the way the staff manages. Very poor. I already switched care. They also lied to me about Seresto collars being safe. I did my research...as I always do. Over 2500 pets have been killed from wearing the color. From two toxic pesticides. Funny considering the vet refuses to prescribe Trifexis. But is ok selling a pesticide collar that has not only killed animals but might possibley be cancelled by the CDC. No thanks! To top ot off..after a few months they sent me a bill for a "consult". Doesn't even list specifics for what I'm being charged for. I was livid. When I walked in 2 months back they literally did NOTHING! They assumed my dog was aggressive...which is funny because the new place I got him into took his blood, fecal...weight. He was great. Had no issues. It's called PATIENCE! PROFESSIONALISM! They took him back for a minute...and told me they couldn't take his blood..or give him shots. Lol. They were scared of him. Yet...it was the other way around. My dog was afraid of them...because they were scared! I won't pay $42 for your clinic just to walk him bwck to your exam room. On top of that...you and your receptionists never returned my calls. Refused to prescribe him flea meds. After telling me you would. Then after not hearing from you for 2 months you try and send me a worthless bill. A consult is suppose to be served the first day...and if anything was done. Which is wasn't. This clinic is horrible. Do me a favor and delete my contact info!

Brought my cat Lucy here and I’m so glad I did. There are a decent amount of vet offices in the area but I’m glad I chose this one. Dr. Hansen is personable and all his staff are nice! I would recommend 👍🏻

I have been taking my furbabies here for the last 4 years and they are hands down the best vet in Goldsboro! The staff is so sweet and they genuinely care about all the animals and owners as well. Plus they are willing to work with you during unforeseen circumstances. If I could give them 100 stars I would! I will always recommend Dr. Hansen and the staff at Spring Creek to anyone needing reliable, affordable care for their fur babies!

I love Dr. Hansen and his staff. He's great with all my babies and trust me I'm picky about who and where I take them to be cared for. When my oldest girl needed to cross the rainbow bridge, he let her stay in her spot in my truck and let her go peacefully. Dr. Hansen explains things thoroughly during the appointment and won't perform treatment without permission.

Dr. Mark and his team do a fantastic job! We've been taking our Labradoodle for the past 6 years. We're there at least once a month (injections to treat Addison's disease) in addition to routine care, minor procedures and kennel our dog there for some vacations. The techs are always friendly, prices are very reasonable and we've never had a problem.
