How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Peak Plaza

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so lucky to have found this practice and Dr. Bailey about 5 dogs ago and a little over 20 years. His heart is genuine, down to earth and so knowledgeable in his field. There is no replacing this doc, with the amount of trust that I have for him and his office staff. Time rolls on and all things change but the front staff of this office is always so kind and friendly.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. What most people want from the veterinarian is compassionate care. If that is what you are looking for, this is NOT the practice that you want to use. When my dog started having breathing problems, I called the vet as soon as they opened. I was told that the vets were not in yet and to call back in 30 minutes. I called back 45 minutes later and was told that they had not had a chance to talk to the vet yet, but they would call me back. I waited over an hour and never received a call back. I called again and was told to take my dog to another vet for an examination. My dog was later diagnosed with a terminal illness and we worked with a hospice vet. After my dog passed away, we sent her ashes to this practice, as is customary. However, they refused to accept her ashes. The hospice vet was shocked, as she had never had a patient's ashes refused by their regular vet before. I was disappointed with the lack of care and compassion that this practice showed us. I would not recommend them to anyone. UPDATE: I would like to share that despite the fact that the owner stated, "we'll be contacting you soon," that never happened. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this veterinarian.

I don’t trust a lot of people with my dogs, but I trust Peak Plaza with my whole heart! They’ve taken the best care of our our animals for over 15 years. They take great care of their owners too 😊 They’re a super trustworthy practice and treat you like you’re the only patient they’ll see all day! Can’t recommend them enough.

Dr. Warner and the staff stayed an hour or more after closing and helped save my dog Marvin's life. The entire staff was so friendly as they always are, but I cannot thank Dr. Warner enough for her care and follow up with me the next day. Thank you from me and the boys! Bobby, Marvin and Burley!

AVOID - Their prices have always been on the high side, but lately, it's become even more exorbitant. Unfortunately, they're not willing to provide prescriptions that would allow you to explore more affordable options for medications elsewhere. My last visit took place in April and extended into May. Initially, I brought my limping terrier in for an examination, but the vet found no apparent issues with her range of motion or overall health, suggesting I keep an eye on her. Things took a turn when I needed a refill for Simparica Trio for both of my dogs. Instead of a straightforward process, it became a saga of repeated blood work orders sent to the lab. Any slight irregularity prompted more tests, with a sense of urgency as if it could be something severe. After all the tests, it turned out that my dogs were perfectly healthy, albeit overweight, which I already knew. I ended up paying nearly $2000 for essentially nothing, and my dog continued to limp. Months later, I'm still making payments on this bill. When I returned for my next Simparica Trio refill, I was hit with a surprise balance of over $200, which they had failed to invoice me for due to their mistake. The total bill, including the medication, exceeded $600. I explained that I couldn't afford that amount at the moment. They agreed to sell me the Simparica Trio and allowed me to work out the remaining payment. I have Pet's Best insurance, which can be helpful depending on the circumstances, but they require a specific receipt for reimbursement. I've been requesting this receipt for over a month, but they keep promising to send it and never do. I've spoken to the new office manager twice, and she assured me both times that they would send the appropriate receipt for the Simparica items ONLY by the end of the day, but it never materialized. My emails to them go unanswered, which is quite a departure from their previous prompt responses. While they may be skilled veterinarians, their management of the business leaves much to be desired, and their office staff's incompetence is glaringly evident.
