How to Save Money at Countryside Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t thank Dr. Lex enough… I have a bearded dragon and have been to every exotic vet in this valley, I have an abundance of knowledge of these reptiles and finding a vet has been a huge challenge. I had to hunt her down at her new clinic last week and walked in Friday evening before they closed and she still saw us, she’s the only vet who has helped us at all. My boy has had some issues since we got him as a baby, we’re still not in the clear but I thought I was going to loose my best friend for the last week and this morning I thought for sure it was the end. After talking to a few experts and a rescue center for reptiles a few days ago, I relayed some of the options to her yesterday about what their thoughts were and today she saved my boy. She cares more than any vet I’ve ever seen. I adore her. I won’t ever go to anyone else ever again for all my animals. I should note I am not an easy customer, I’m an herbalist and know health and how to heal naturally but animals and reptiles are different, but I do study up on them and have all the questions and lots of opinions. I appreciate that she values my thoughts and opinions. The size of her heart shows. I will always be so grateful I found her and I’m sure my Groot is too 💗 Update: unfortunately my Groot passed right after I posted this review. He passed Valentine’s Day. After doing some digging and reaching out to another exotic vet I figured out he had periodontal disease which is usually caused by too much sugar which I never gave him. We did not feed this boy fruit ever. But, something obviously caused it that I was doing. Only thing I’ve been able to come up with is that I gave him too many baths. He loved the water, he loved to play in it so I gave him a bath all the time. Water is dirty. The disease had spread to his soft tissue and became too much and in all honesty I’m not sure if Dr. lex was able to clean his teeth I would have been able to afford it or anyone in this valley would have been able to do this job because these animals are unknown to most vets around here. He was my favorite animal I’ve ever owned but also my most stressful animal. I don’t know if I’ll ever have enough guts to own another one. Dr Lex was amazing because how much she cared but there is so much to know and understand with these animals, I hope, because of all the beardie owners around here, she tries to learn more and go more into depth to truly understand them because thats what I’d do if I were a vet around here. And had I found a vet that really truly understood reptiles I’m sure we would have caught his teeth issues in the beginning but to have had gone to every vet in this town after it was already soo bad and not one of them caught it, really sucks. I couldn’t wrap my brain around it because I didn’t give him sugar and that’s how dragons usually get this. I’ve also never own an animal that has these issues so it was new for me. I am very grateful for the care and support that was given to him his last few days and will continue being a loyal customer to her. But if I do decide to get another dragon down the road, I will be making the drive to Missoula often. I was given 2 vets names there that I can’t remember the gf the top of my head but I talked to the owner of Zootown exotic and he gave me his vets names so that’s where our next dragon will go to see if I can manage to come up with the courage to get another 💗

Absolute best vet I’ve ever been to. From out of state and after struggling to get my dog in for an emergency the doctor agreed to bring him in with no appointment even though they were booked full. Super compassionate and caring. My dog is getting better too!

I finally found the Vet practice in the Flathead Valley reflects the best expertise coupled with obvious interest, warmth for their patients. I felt listened to and invited to be educated in the care and decision-making. It’s been too long since I last experienced this level of confidence for a Vet practice. This humble appearing practice interacted with my furry companion with a combination of intuition and professionalism. I recommend Dr. Jessie Lex without hesitation.

I had my veterinary office fax over a prescription, went in an hour later picked up my dog’s meds. It was a good experience.
