How to Save Money at Moore Lane Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to take my dog, Happy, in here to get her leg stitched up. It is a very busy place, however they took great care of my dog and made sure that she was in no pain when they stitched up her leg. Travis, one of the assistants, lead Happy back into the procedure room. He obviously has great loving energy, because she has never trusted another human being enough to be led away from either my husband or myself. I would highly recommend them in an emergency situation.

I don’t even give you guys one start at all Eli the guy nurse there or financial guy. Whatever you want me to put my dog down trying to tell me he’s brain dead I could tell by when I went to go see my dogs to say my goodbyes, he wasn’t brain dead so I wouldn’t allow him to put my dog down. So you say bad experience to give you guys a chance to improve your Self, but how can somebody do that when you guys want to put your dog down? If I would agree with you guys how can you prove yourself then my dog is happy go lucky today. Walking around back to normal totally wrong diagnosed that nurse and you need to get rid of them because I Donely one that it had happened to you. I got six letters at six different people that it happened to, that’s all I got to say I could save much more but that’s all I got to say your employee your your employees traumatized me so bad thinking you guys didn’t treat my dog all night when you guys were what a way to make your employees feel special when your animal your furry friend is dying you need a whole new said employees there one of these days somebody that it happens to it’s gonna make the business go down just might be me so you better look into it and see what kind employees got working there because they’re not very nice at all and they need to go back to school to learn their nursing skills and animals because they gave me totally the wrong diagnosis. My dog was not brain dead. He is just fine now , that’s all I got to say goodbye

We have been here twice now due to emergency situations with our dog. They have been very helpful both visits. Our most recent visit Travis the vet tech went above and beyond. He was so kind, helpful and just amazing all around. He is a gem of a vet tech and I think a huge part in saving our dog’s life. We are so grateful to him. Our dog is a really difficult patient due to her extreme reactivity to vets and he and the team did everything they could to make it as easy as possible when it was a very scary situation and I was a complete mess. Dr. Young is an incredibly helpful and compassionate vet too and the rest of the staff we may not have seen were just amazing too. Thank you so much for everything you do. We feel so taken care of by this place. Great for a routine visit or an emergency!

I picked up my cat after he had been there for several days. I was very upset in the condition he was returned to me. I brought him there clean, well kept and above all sanitary. He was brought out to me in a cardboard cat carrier and when they came into the waiting room I could smell the stench of cat urine. I took him out of the box when we got to best friends (his primary) for his surgery. When I took him out I was very disappointed. After spending over $2000 he came back to me not near as soft, shiny, or clean. He had urine all over his backside including all the way up to his hips. He also is starting to get sores on his back legs. To say I am displeased is an understatement. This is not the first time I have had troubles with him there as best friends is no longer an emergency vet. I am very upset by the care my cat received there if any. Best friends will have to bathe him due to his uncleanliness. Not to mention all the germs and bacteria that could have been exposed to him via his urine catheter. I am also very frustrated because the tech I spoke with the night I brought him in was told he is allergic to potassium and they sent me to best friends with an antibiotic containing potassium. She told me she would let the doctors know he couldn’t have this and obviously there was some misunderstanding. My cat has been to many vets including a neurologist at CSU and I have never seen him this way. My grandmother and I were repulsed to see him in this condition.

I can’t give enough stars for this veterinary hospital and ALL the staff with whom I came into contact during our little dogs most recent ER visit. Every staff member from front desk, vet techs to Doctors were incredibly prompt, sensitive, caring and professional. They are very up front about charges (which were not out of line) before a procedure and no hidden fees. Thank you for your hospital and around the clock service!!!
