How to Save Money at Veterinary Medical Clinic of Ocean Springs

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We trust these guys with all four of our little furballs. From helping us with dietary problems to making sure they are vaccinated all the way to even a couple of emergencies that we've had in the past. In my opinion you will not be disappointed.

We are a military family PCSing to Germany very soon. Back in March, we reached out to this vet since they are listed as a USDA vet to help us secure an eu certificate. We leave July 8. We have to have the certificate within ten days of us entering the country. ** I also want to note that during this appointment, while we were waiting in the exam room, we could hear their very loud conversation that was being had between the receptionists and the vet about the vet Angela’s sex experiences she had. It was really explicit, detailed, unprofessional, and just weird. It didn’t offend me because I couldn’t care less BUT I also draw a fine line with goofing off and taking your job and workplace seriously.. My husband and I kept looking at each other like we know they know these walls don’t even connect and we can hear everything they’re talking about… so weird.. that was a red flag.**** We got the vaccinations needed at that appointment in March and were just waiting for them to send us all the results. They agreed to do the EU certificate at this time. We were already kind of worried because the office manager said the previous office manager hated doing them and that the next one she had to do she was going to charge $500- then laughed so we were very unsure of everything… we didn’t know what to think. Angela, who was beside her, said oh we won’t charge y’all that much though. Don’t worry. On June 12, my husband went to their office to go see if they had the results ready for us and he got a copy and to see if we could get a game plan for this eu certificate. Then this vet told him that our pet HAS to have the TITER test in order to get the EU health certificate but it was $405 and would be sent off and the results would be available or July 5. The vet told us since we wouldn’t be in town during our ten day window that we could get in South Carolina when we plan to visit family (so the certificate would be within the ten days). Today, i called a vet in South Carolina that told us that she would not be able to do it since we don’t live in South Carolina. I called the usda to see what we can do a out that and he told me that as long as they begin the eu certificate for us, they can just release it in that 10 day window for us and have it sent to us while visiting family so the date would be where we needed it. Next, I called this vet back to ask if they could get the certificate started for us and as soon as we get the results for the TITER, they could fill that part in and release it at the correct date. They said Angela the vet has SUDDENLY decided to no longer even offer doing EU certificates after telling us that another state could service us which is untrue. I asked them what about the TITER text and the receptionist told me that results won’t come for 6 weeks! They told my husband July 5….. I asked them why they would tell us to even get the testing knowing it wouldn’t be back in time for us to have that certificate filled out anyway? I got the runaround. After much back and forth with me telling them how disgusted I was with them and them telling me that it’s my husbands fault for everything, I hung up and called usda back… USDA TOLD US THAT THE TITER TEST WASNT EVEN NECESSARY FOR ENTRY TO GERMANY AND THEY KNOWINGLY CHARGED US FOR A SERVICE THAT WE DIDNT EVEN NEED ANYWAY!! It’s so upsetting to be taken advantage of. So now, the USDA is getting involved with them because they agreed that we were totally taken advantage of and the vet refused a service that they should be providing because they are usda certified. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone, military or not. They confuse you just enough to take advantage of you. They are disrespectful and I truly believe that they couldn’t care less about people and their pets. They are very lazy and unpleasant.

Simply the best. They are like family now after saving the life of our beautiful kitty, Biscuit. They have been with us through tragedy and miracles. From the Techs to the Vets, just amazing people. Low cost, understanding, flexible with scheduling and empathetic. I won't go anywhere else and we have 6 cats in our family now. Conveniently located in eastern OS, we live in beautiful Gautier near Shell Landing so it's only a 10m drive. Plus, they always allow me to use the scale to weigh myself and my cats lol. Love the receptionists too.
