How to Save Money at Cave Springs Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was my second annual visit for my two cats. The staff was friendly and once we got into a room took time to answer questions that I had as well as helped to put both cats at ease. The doctor reviewed notes from their first visit, gave the examinations, and administered their annual shots. The doctor did a great job and neither cat really noticed they had even gotten a shot. She took time to help them relax and be comfortable with her and gave them lots of pets afterwards. They even helped me carry their crates to and from the room as well as to my car since I was alone. Thanks for providing a great experience!

My pup had a reaction to his vaccinations yesterday and when I called they told me to bring him in, the second we walked in the door they got him right back for treatment and explained everything thoroughly to me. They were so kind and knowledgeable. It was a scary thing to see but they made me feel better and made my pup feel better! He is looking so much better now after their excellent care, and I feel so much relief knowing they’re there if I ever have issues. Such wonderful staff, and the cleanest vet office I have ever seen. So grateful for them all! Keep up the great work!!

I don’t know what happened to this vet. They used to be so amazing. Now they seem to have changed. Every time we go in they have exorbitant charges for everything. I just paid almost $5,000 for my dogs knee surgery. Fine it is what it is. Fast forward a couple weeks and go for follow up visit and X-ray. They take her back and come back in and say they can’t do X-rays because 4 technicians can’t hold her down and want another $340 to do the X-ray. I say absolutely not, I just paid you all that money and follow up X-ray should have been included in that price. So they say because my dog won’t comply and neither will I that we will have to reschedule and give her meds to calm her down. My wife returned today with drugged out dog and they still charge me almost $300 for X-rays. So tired of their hidden charges.

DONT BOTHER. They like to act all nice and sweet on the front. But if you’re a first time pet owner they will SCREW YOU OVER. I didn’t know ANYTHING about owning a pet or what is needed for a first time exam visit. They started listing all these tests and things they felt was needed and me not knowing anything just went along with it. After all said and done. Everything comes out normal which I was relieved but it still cost me a pretty penny. Come to find out after talking around to other vet offices and friends/family, All those tests and whatnot are typically only if something is wrong or the pet has a history of illness. None of which occurred. I am beyond irate and disgusted how they trick new pet owners into purchasing things they don’t need just to make a buck.

We were very pleased w the care that our dog received. The facility had the diagnostic equipment necessary to make an accurate diagnosis. The vet and staff were so very helpful and pleasant . The facility is clean . We plan to continue to take Gunner to Dr Donoho and would recommend her and the facility wholeheartedly.
