How to Save Money at Animal Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat means the world to me so it’s important to me he has the best care. He had a urinary blockage which can be fatal, but they detected it immediately and got him the proper care he needed. He remained there under their care for about 4 days and they gave me a call every 12 hours with updates which was very helpful. These doctors and staff members were nothing but attentive and supportive. They are all extremely detail oriented and made sure to relay all of the information to me that I needed for at home care. I sincerely appreciate the time and attention that was given to my Leo. We appreciate you!

My puppy ate something that it wasn't supposed to eat and became symptomatic very fast, AEC let me knpw that there may be a wait over the phone when I arrived, but as soon as I walked in with my little Bubba they took him back right away, they kept me informed every step of the way and where very thorough with aftercare instructions. They kept me at ease, as the staff knew that I was trying to keep myself together for my children that were worried at home about their puppy.

Very compassionate staff and doctors! Reasonably priced for an emergency visit. Took excellent care of our fur baby!

The staff was so compassionate and treated my family and dog with the utmost care as we made the devastating decision to put our family dog to rest. Christy was so sweet and accommodating. Dr. Smith (I hope I have her name correct) was caring but honest as she discussed our options and walked me through the process. I’ve never had to do this before but I believe the cost was fair and they explained everything to me. As awful as it is to put a pet to rest, I am so grateful I picked this facility. They did everything in their ability to comfort us and care for my dog so tenderly in her last moments.

I am not a bad review person. But this place cares for our most beloved pet in this world. I have a four month old Boston terrier puppy. He doesn’t know how to do the stairs and as my husband was taking him down the stairs, my husband fell A complete accident, but the puppy fell too, and was limping. I felt that something was wrong and so I took him to this place so in case his leg was broken or dislocated, he didn’t have to wait till Monday to get fixed! all in all everybody was nice, but it was 1:30 in the morning They told me that puppies were dramatic And that they didn’t think he needed an x-ray, even though he was not putting any pressure on his leg even after pain Meds. It was 3 AM at this point, and if I was in my right mind, I would’ve fought for an x-ray My puppy indeed has a broken leg and had to suffer Another 24 hours until I could get him into our vet. It just seems they didn’t want to deal with it. You guys work at this place for emergencies like this and no matter how late in the morning it is some nights are crazy and some nights are calm, but every patient should be cared for. It’s the whole point of an emergency clinic. I tried calling just to talk to the manager, but they were in a “meeting” I was gonna call me back and never did
