How to Save Money at Arnold Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Stewart was so amazing with our puppies! He educated us on different puppy food, vaccines, and answered all of our questions thoroughly! He even gave us a heads up that these next couple weeks are gonna be a little rough with the puppies as they’re only 12 weeks old and going through changes. Prices are very fair and we will 1,000% keep going back here!

They're honestly a very clean veterinary office, and the doctors are very good with the animals. I've been going to this establishment for 10 years. However, the only downfall is the front desk or who happens to answer the phone. I can not do a full 5 stars due to the fact that the front desk has been rude to me several times over the years. To leave this on a good note, though, the doctors and the technicians are very knowledgeable and respect the animals, aka our best friends. They do seem to care and take their jobs seriously. I respect that. I would recommend the actual veterinarians of this office. The front desk not so much... I hope this helps!

Today was a very difficult day for me. AAH was very kind to both myself and my family and that is something I wanted to recognized. Letting go of a pet is always a challenging endeavor and I myself get very emotional with this type of thing but the staff here always made me feel welcome like I wasn’t a burden and that made the process very much fair and affordable for me. In situations when you feel hopeless, it can be nice to have a trusted friend in the room, and that’s what AAH was for me. I want to thank Dr. White for being so compassionate and understanding. She was terrific and made the process just that much easier.

I love Dr. White. She is patient and kind. She is considerate of your pet’s well-being and discusses treatment options openly. She also gives owners the power to make the informed decisions for their pet without force or pressure. I will continue to trust my cats in their care.

Dr White is the most caring and empathetic vet that we have ever had! I have been taking my senior dog Chloe here since she was a puppy (2012). My parents have always taken their dogs here and it was an easy choice for us. We were always happy here but when we moved into the city we changed vets to be closer. Needless to say we were back with in a year or so because the other office didn't compare. I hate the drive but it's worth it, and hey, it's only once a year right? Then we got a puppy who is accident prone, a long with our aging dog we are making more and more trips. Yes I think of switching but honestly the care we get here is worth the drive. My younger dog started seeing Dr White and during her annual visit this year we started discussing our senior dogs strange behavior. We made an appointment with Dr White for our senior. We discovered that her pain wasn't as managed as well as we thought and her behavior was changing slowly because of it. We started adding in medicines to help with her arthritis. Dr White cares so much, she is so genuinely concerned about both of our dogs wellbeing both mentally and physically. She always returns our calls, she doesn't call me crazy 🤣. She makes suggestions to holistically help as well as with medication. I swear this protocol is giving new energy to my senior dog and added years to her life! Is it worth the drive? (now every freaking month), heck yes! I would drive double the distance! I can not recommend this animal hospital more. The staff is so friendly and I know that they have my pups best interest at heart every time.
