How to Save Money at Lyndale Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I should have left a review a long time ago (we've been coming here for about 4 years now), but I am finally remembering to. This is the best animal hospital I have ever been to. Everyone is really kind and professional, and they are really good about helping you balance what your pet needs while also understanding that things can get expensive. They will only recommend what your pet actually needs. And I have to give huge props to the front desk people. There are two of them that work up there (actually, 3 now, I think), and they are amazing. They are always nice and pleasant to work with, and handle the large amount of work very well. It looks like it can get stressful up there (just by the nature of the job itself) with answering phones, taking in clients who are there, and getting all of the information out the people, but they handle it with grace and professionalism. They are absolutely stellar. I can not recommend this vet enough. They have taken extremely good care of our two cats.

Very average vet clinic. Also, if you're new to Minneapolis or looking for a new vet, this is not the place. I haven't been able to get a same-week appointment for years. Which is ridiculous. If I can't count on my animals going to their regular clinic for various illnesses that come up, then I'm going to find a new clinic. Which I did, and I'm very happy.

We’ve been going to Lyndale for almost 6 years, since our dog was just a puppy. We’ve been here for two CCL surgeries and with two adopted cats. The service is always wonderful! When our dog had both surgeries, staff were so attentive and very helpful and available for questions after. I’ve called front desk and gotten advice when when surprise illness or accidents come up. The vets have helped us problem solve when our dog became very anxious at a couple years old. They always take their time with us and are so kind. I’ve also appreciated that I can talk through pros/cons of procedures, medications, etc without feeling pressured into a decision. The front desk staff are all so friendly and lovely to chat with. And it always makes us feel so cared for when everyone from front desk folks to the vets remember our dog’s name, or ask after her when we’re bringing in one of our cats. While our cats are nervous at the vet (and staff always make the visit quick and easy for them!), I’m convinced our dog would gladly choose to live at this vet forever, she loves everyone so much and they are so good to her!

I have been bringing my 11 year old dog here since she was a puppy. Dr. Benson is so kind and caring, as are all of the staff. I always know and trust she will get the best care.

This practice indicated that my dog had a slight ACL tare, and it was nothing to worry about. I regret that we didn't worry about it because now, our dog has a full-blown ACL tare and is developing arthritis in her uninjured leg. We are devastated. I feel as though this practice didn't take the necessary steps to really dive deep to see how severe the injury was. My dog is scared when she's at the vet, but we should have sedated her, like I've done recently to get down to making a more accurate diagnosis. I feel as though they pushed our dog along for whatever reason. Pitbull mix ar 35lbs
